Middletown, Connecticut (WFSB) -- A car slammed into Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Connecticut and caught fire on Thursday morning.According to Middletown Mayor Dan Drew, the act was intentional and that there were gas cans in the car.Drew said in a noon news conference that a man in his 20s crashed into the emergency room entrance and then set himself on fire. He was reportedly at Bridgeport Hospital in critical condition.One person was hurt, according to dispatchers.“I heard a noise," said Gary Mills, an eyewitness. "I was in my room. I put my shoes on and looked out the window and I saw all the smoke coming out. I said 'something is happening over there.' My sister got up. We went outside and we saw all the flames and then over this side I see this guy screaming, he was screaming! I said, that guy's on fire."The Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad has responded, WFSB reported.It happened at the emergency room entrance on Crescent Street around 10 a.m.Mayor Dan Drew posted to social media."At this time, we don't believe there is any threat to the community and we believe this to be an isolated incident," Drew said.The hospital is in "emergency operations mode," hospital officials said.The Life Star emergency helicopter was dispatched to the scene.However, it's unclear how serious the person's injuries are.WFSB saw the emergency room door pushed in with the car inside as well as shattered glass.Several fire departments were called for mutual aid.  1494

Miami-Dade County, Florida, will close all of its beaches from July 3 through July 7 amid an outbreak of COVID-19 in the Sunshine State, Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez announced on Friday.The closures are for beaches in all cities and unincorporated areas of Miami-Dade. Gimenez said the closures could extend beyond July 7 if need be.Florida has seen a sudden surge of coronavirus cases this week, prompting the state to prohibit bars from serving alcohol on site.Gimenez said firework shows can still go on during the Fourth of July weekend, but must be viewed away from the beach.“Everyone should wear masks inside public establishments and outside if they cannot practice social distancing of at least 6 feet,” Gimenez said in a statement. “I have been seeing too many businesses and people ignoring these lifesaving rules. LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) — A Louisville man, arrested just outside of Chicago, is accused of killing a woman and putting her body parts in a suitcase to visit his family several hours away, according to multiple media outlets.The Louisville Metro Police Department says they were able to track the homicide back to a home in their area, after getting information from investigators in Illinois.Police in Markham, Illinois, a Chicago suburb close to the Indiana border, said the suspect's family picked up the man from a Greyhound bus stop in Chicago recently. "He brought with him luggage two, three bags," Markham Police Chief Terry White told WBBM. Chief White says the family claims they did not know what was in his bags, but became suspicious when the man never unpacked and allegedly kept guarding the bags. Police say the family reported a foul odor was leaking from a suitcase. Police were called when a family member opened the suitcase while the man was out and found the body parts, according to WBBM. "A human body part was discovered. They immediately back away and called police," Chief White said.Officials say the suspect has been arrested. The man's identity or any charges have not been released at this time.LMPD, Markham police and the FBI are investigating the case. The family is cooperating with investigators. 1339
