He will have to pay Walt Disney restitution in the amount he stole and forfeit the watch and cash seized upon his arrest, officials said.Gomes, a Brazilian national, was working on the ship with a temporary visa. (KGTV) - A baby badger, once lethargic and in need of care, is recovering after treatment at the San Diego Humane Society’s Project Wildlife Center. The Department of Animal Services got a call Thursday about the badger in the Jewel Valley section of Boulevard in East San Diego County. The caller told animal experts the badger had not moved all day. An animal control officer responded to the scene and found the badger to be lethargic. The officer took the animal to the Humane Society facility on Gaines Street in Mission Valley for treatment. Veterinarians are bottle-feeding the badger, which weighs about two pounds, according to animal care expert Lauren DuBois. When the badger reaches adulthood, its diet will consist of small animals including ground squirrels and pocket gophers. DuBois said the badger will possibly be released to Fund for Animals in Ramona. Badgers can be aggressive and require ample space, according to DuBois. By Friday morning, Dan DeSousa, Director of Animal Services reported “the badger is doing well and is feisty.” Badgers, though rarely seen in San Diego, are native to the area, according to wildlife experts. “In my thirty years with Animal Services here in San Diego County, this is the first badger that our Department has ever encountered” said DeSousa. “We are thankful to have Project Wildlife here in our community to provide the needed care for these animals in their time of need.” Anyone who encounters a wild animal in distress can call 619-299-7012 to report the matter. 1532

(KGTV) - An Amber Alert issued early Monday morning was canceled hours later when the Central California girl was reportedly found in Temecula.Law enforcement officials said Aaliyah Gomez was taken by her father Julio Gomez, who did not have custody.Aaliyah was taken overnight from Lemoore, near Bakersfield.  Officials believed her father was heading for the Mexican border in a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado.The girl was dropped off with family but Gomez remains at large, according to KABC. 501

(KGTV) — California is taking its time before issuing guidance to allow the state's theme parks to reopen during the coronavirus pandemic.Wednesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom said the state was not planning to issue such guidance soon, despite reports last week that rules that would allow the shuttered locations to reopen would be issued soon.Disney Chairman Bob Iger recently left the state's economic recovery task force, an early indication that business leaders for the industry could be at odds with the state over reopening. According to the Associated Press, Erin Guerrero, executive director of the California Attractions and Parks Association, said amusement park leaders wanted changes to a proposed draft they reviewed this month."There’s disagreements in terms of opening a major theme park. We’re going to let science and data make that determination," Newsom said, adding that he wasn't "surprised at all" that Iger left.Newsom said the state is continuing to work with the industry and would approach theme parks with a "health-first" framework, but was not in a hurry to release rules."We are going to be led by a health-first framework and we’re going to be stubborn about it," Newsom said.
