LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Many beach parking lots remain closed because of the coronavirus pandemic. Members of the Surfrider Foundation of San Diego say someone is making it even harder to find public street parking by illegally painting curbs red.Surfers who frequent La Jolla Shores noticed something was a little off."Me and my friend came here the other day… and we're like, 'What? What the heck?'" surfer, Maddie Sadlier laughed.They say the public parking on Camino Del Collado, a small street that runs parallel to La Jolla Shores Drive suddenly vanished."It's been like this for a really long time, up until recently, it just turned red," surfer Zach Rudy said.It turns out, the red curb on Camino Del Collado is fake and illegal."It's really a problem that somebody took it upon themselves to take away public parking right next to the beach," Kristin Brinner, a volunteer with the Surfrider Foundation San Diego, said.Some parts of the curb are only painted red on top, and there are several splotches of red on the road - clear signs that it was not a professionally painted curb. Brinner says this is the second summer in a row that this small street curb has been illegally painted."I do hope that people realize that this is more than just a simple bucket of paint," Brinner said. "It's vandalism, and it's preventing people from accessing the beach that belong to all of us. For someone to do this and say that 'No you can't access the beach near me,' is a really pretty hateful act, in my opinion."According to San Diego Police, painting a curb red is a misdemeanor crime of vandalism. If caught, a person can be cited or arrested.The Surfrider Foundation does not know who keeps doing this. But they say every summer, as the beach crowds increase, so does the problem."It does seem like it was somebody in this neighborhood that just was maybe sick of outsiders coming in, wanted to claim it as their own street," Rudy said.San Diego Parking Enforcement is aware of the vandalism on Camino Del Collado and is already in the process of getting it repainted. But Brinner says the best way to fix the problem quickly is to be aware."They should document their parking spots they often use, and then they will have proof so they can say 'Hey, this used to be here, and now it's not!' LITTLETON, Colo. — In one Colorado neighborhood, life is quiet, which makes what happened last Sunday hard to understand for many residents.A man named Scott Smith was arrested after claiming that his wife, Kanokwan Smith, tried to kill him with a butcher knife in their Littleton home. In an affidavit detailing the incident, he said he had no choice but to shoot and kill her. As of Sunday evening, Scott had not been charged in connection to the case and he is not in custody.For neighbor Dominique Naylor, who has known Kanokwan for more than a decade, the pain is unbearable. She said she was a hard worker and juggled three jobs."She’ll never be able to wrap her arms around her little girl again and he shouldn’t have that right," Naylor said. "He shouldn’t be out and he shouldn’t be free."She said there's not a question in her mind that Scott killed her, and other neighbors and friends agree, adding that Scott "wasn't the kind of person you ever wanted to see (Kanokwan) with."She said anybody who knew her friend knows she wouldn't hurt a fly."It just seems so unfair to live in a world that doesn’t have her in it because she’s just so kind and worked so hard and how could anyone hurt her?" LAS VEGAS — A new Harvard study with the Movement Advancement Project shows that COVID-19 has negatively impacted LGBTQ+ households more than non-LGBTQ+ households, especially if they are Black or Latinx."There tend to be worse outcomes in general," explained Dr. Ryan Cox, behavior health director at the LGBTQ Specialty Clinic at Truman Medical Center."Part of that is a lack of primary care," he said. "So people often in this community, particularly the transgender community, don't already have established relationships with medical providers."Healthcare workers say they are seeing these study results reflected in the community."They would rather skip their medical appointments rather than come out and expose themselves to COVID," said Nurse Care Manager Kim Tilson, also with Truman Medical Center."It is definitely having an impact," she continued. "So if you can't come in for doctor's appointments, if we can't follow up, it's hard to make sure we can refill your medications and still stay safe.The study says 64% of LGBTQ+ households have lost a job due to the pandemic, and if you're Black that number is 95% compared to less than half of non-LGBTQ+ households.A quarter of LGBTQ+ households couldn't get needed prescriptions. Neither were his three renters when something came tearing through his home off La Mesa Blvd."My heart is pounding right now even thinking about it," said Jacob.A 9mm bullet pierced the screen and a double-glass sliding patio door in the back of the house, before flying past the living room and into a kitchen cabinet. A neighbor says she heard 12 gunshots just past midnight.Jacob says if he hadn't been out that night, he would have been sitting in the living room watching television - and right in the line of fire."Looking at the angle of the bullet, probably would have been right at my head. I'm speechless. I would have been dead," said Jacob.It's a chilling thought to go with his feelings of frustration. A 9mm bullet can travel upwards of a mile and a half. Jacob tells 10news the sound of New Year's Eve gunfire is nothing new, and he's fed up."Please think twice, there's other human beings in the neighborhood. It's just irresponsible.
