SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers over the weekend seized 461 pounds of narcotics worth more than .1 million and captured 14 fugitives.Officers intercepted 350 pounds of methamphetamine, 71 pounds of cocaine and 36 pounds of marijuana.The drugs were seized and the arrests made between Friday, October 27 and Sunday, October 29.The drugs were discovered in vehicles’ floor, car battery, seats, gas tank, tires and quarter panels, according to the agency.The 14 fugitives were arrested for charges including homicide, wire fraud, robbery and parole violations.One of those arrested was Deven Bargas, 20. Authorities say Bargas was wanted by the San Jose Police Department for homicide. 724

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With record-breaking temperatures Labor Day weekend, the usual holiday crowd grew larger for San Diego beaches. However, not everyone wanted to join the masses.“But right now it’s so crowded, so crowded and I prefer to avoid that,” said El Cajon resident Celso Patricio.He filled up gallons of water at a water station in East County in preparation. He said the hydration and his air conditioning are how he stays cool in his East County neighborhood.RELATED: Sweltering heat sets several records across San Diego CountyDown the street, Darrin Schallock washed his car at a self-service car wash. He jokingly said the chore is welcomed in the triple-digit heat.“Yeah it’s warm it’s hot, agreed, but that’s why I’m washing my car here, I can wash my car, take a bath, take a shower, save electricity it’s great,” said Schallock.Hot temperatures could break records throughout the holiday weekend. Coastal areas will see highs in the 90s for Saturday and Sunday, and just a few miles inland highs will jump into the 100s, even the mountains. Deserts will be close to 120 for about the third time this summer. A Red Flag Warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. Saturday until 6 p.m. Sunday. It includes inland valleys to the mountains.The heat prompted a state-wide flex alert for the weekend. According to the California Independent System Operator, the flex alert goes into effect Saturday, Sept. 5, and lasts through Monday, Sept. 7. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local Marine's dreams are close to becoming a reality in the form of a massive property in Dulzura. It is not just for Kalani Creutzberg. His efforts to help others prompted an Animal Planet star to join the cause. Nate Schoemer was also a Marine. He was fresh out of high school with his blood type on his boots when he joined the invasion of Iraq.  "The first group was out there for three days and when they came back you could tell that they've just been through hell," Schoemer said. "This is hard for me to talk about," he said with tears in his eyes. It is especially hard to him to discuss it with civilians who often cannot comprehend the horrors of war. He lost some friends on that deployment in 2003."I could hear it from where I was," he started. "I mean I could hear them screaming," It haunted his heart on home soil., but he said his dog's love lifted his spirits. "I need to continue on this mission and helping others the way she helped me," he added.When he got out of the service he became a master dog trainer. He went on to host an Animal Planet show called "Rescue Dog to Super Dog". In it, he saved shelter dogs and turned them into service dogs for people in need. In episode one, he trained Bas for Creutzberg, which is how the two met. Creutzberg survived chilling deployments, but the fight for his life followed him home. "Before I knew it I was homeless," Creutzberg explained. "It was embarrassing, it was shameful," Bas gave him a sense of purpose. "When I was going there to rescue him he was actually the one rescuing me," Creutzberg added. Now, he is on a mission to give homeless vets a home. He plans to buy a property that is nearly 300 acres in Dulzura. "We're going to run our day to day operations very much like when we were back in the service," he explained. "There will be structure, we will work together…… the very things that a lot of us miss."It does not end there.  They will also rescue homeless dogs  about to be euthanized."[We'll] allow both the veterans and the dogs to grow relationships and start anew," he said. Schoemer believed in the Cammies and Canines Sanctuary so much, he joined the efforts. He plans to turn some of the dogs on death row into service dogs for vets. "Just being around Marines and veterans is a great thing,"  Schoemer said with a big grin. Their goal is to get back to tackling battles together. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A heated debate broke out Tuesday night, as San Diego County parents discussed the rising number of school threats. One of the latest -- hateful, spray painted messages threatening violence at Rancho Bernardo High School. RELATED: Police investigate threatening messages at Rancho Bernardo High SchoolAn act of vandalism so terrifying, the school stepped up to help police find the person behind it. They are offering a ,000 reward to anyone who has information that leads to the arrest of the suspect, said Principal David LeMaster. "It starts at home, guys," said one parent. "Stop pointing the fingers at them and step up for yourself and know what your child is doing." There is still a lot of fear in at the school. It's only been one day since someone painted the threatening around campus. Words like "school shooting, Florida was nothing" and "murder, blood, chaos" have parents questioning the safety of their children."These images are quite frightening to be honest with you," Michelle Perry said. Her 15-year-old daughter texted her that morning after she saw the graffiti. "I immediately texted (my daughter) back. I texted her the pictures, I said 'you need to go to the office. You need to figure out what's going on.'"Perry attended the school meeting Tuesday night to talk more about how parents and faculty are going to keep their kids safe. Principal David LeMaster calls the message a hate crime and terroristic threats -- saying the school is working with police to catch the person who did it. A second meeting will be held at the school Thursday at 3 p.m. Parents hope to continue the conversation and brainstorm ways to make sure students stay safe.     1817

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two men wearing masks and gloves robbed a City Heights jewelry store Friday.One of the men jumped a display counter and confronted an employee of the Eclipse Jewelry Store at 4213 University Ave. just east of Interstate 15, police said.One man took jewelry from display trays and put it in a bag while the second man pointed a gun at the employee.The owner told 10News the men got away with about ,000 worth of mostly gold chains. He also said he thought perhaps the men had been in the store before since they seemed to know exactly what they wanted. Both men ran off and were last seen getting into a silver colored late model Toyota or Honda heading east.No one was injured in the robbery. Police did not have detailed descriptions of the suspects. 791
