(KGTV) — Part of a Del Mar cliff crumbled, just feet away from train tracks, following heavy rains that battered the county.Sky10 flew over the affected area Friday, capturing a portion of cliffside hollowed out near train tracks near 13th Street. Several crews were seen assessing the area. However, Amtrak later posted that all train travel between Oceanside and San Diego will be canceled and a bus bridge will be used from 6 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday due to "unscheduled track work."North County Transit District added that, "The heavy rainstorms over the last 48 hours have caused a washout adjacent to the coastal railroad tracks along the Del Mar Bluffs just south of Coast Boulevard which support COASTER, Amtrak, and BNSF operations. At this time, all trains can safely operate at restricted speeds through the area based on site reviews and inspections conducted by railroad engineers."NCTD also planned bus service starting 6 a.m. Saturday. COASTER passengers will run a regular service from Oceanside to the Solana Beach train station, with passengers taking a bus to Santa Fe Depot in San Diego. Del Mar, Calif. (KGTV)- California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a series of gun bills into law Friday, including a bill that will prohibit gun and ammunition shows at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The bill was authored by State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-78)."People have the right to continue to buy guns at private establishments. The state just shouldn't have a role in facilitating the flow of guns into neighborhoods where children are killed," Gloria told 10News in an interview shortly after returning from the bill signing in Sacramento.Gloria was inspired to act by anti-gun violence advocates who began protesting the Crossroads of the West Gun Show, held five times each year at the Fairgounds. Groups such as "Never Again CA" began the protests shortly after the deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida.Crossroads President Tracy Olcott told 10News the company plans to sue the stop the law from taking effect. "Gun shows are not the place where gun violence is created. We're the ones who are educating about gun safety and I think when you have an environment where you can talk about it and educate people, I think that's an important part of curbing gun violence."The next gun show will be held in December. DENVER – A natural gas explosion caused at least one building to partially collapse Tuesday in Denver, injuring nine people. Simon Crittle, a spokesperson for Denver Health Medical Center, said two people were transported to the hospital by ambulance after the explosion and collapse. One of the people suffered traumatic injuries in the explosion. The other person was stable Tuesday afternoon.Crittle said that several other people were being treated at the scene of the explosion and collapse and that first responders were looking for other possible victims.Denver Fire Captain Greg Pixley said the explosion was reported at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday and said several buildings were damaged in the area. One person who had been trapped was rescued by firefighters.Pixley said that crews were working to put out an active fire at the scene in addition to working to reduce the chance of other explosions in the area and further collapses. He said there were no reported deaths as of 2:10 p.m.An Xcel Energy spokeswoman on scene said all of the company equipment is intact up to the meters, meaning the explosion was likely caused by a customer. Xcel is working to turn off gas remotely. He was completely exposed and said he didn't know what happened," she said. "It was just like the biggest, loudest boom I've ever heard."She said some men who had been working on her business' HVAC system ran over to help the man and another trapped woman.Another neighbor, Edward Scott, said he was on the phone with his insurance company at his nearby home when the explosion happened."[The insurance agent] was on the phone with me going, 'What happened, what happened?' and I said, 'I don't know, I think my house just blew up,'" Scott said.He said he was hit by wood debris from the explosion and that the shockwave from the blast was so intense he thought his own home had exploded. When he realized it was another home across the street, he said he walked over to the scene and saw a person rescued from the rubble."It was two people ... a lady. And then this guy picked her up and firemen carried her out of the house," Scott said. (KGTV) - The COVID-19 pandemic-related shutdowns are impacting cities across San Diego, and the seaside village of Del Mar is no different.Alex and William Rhett opened a childrens' book store in Del Mar a year ago."The pandemic killed us as a business, but the community brought us back, and here we are," said Alex.The couple just opened Sandcastle Tales at its new location in the Del Mar Plaza."We feel overwhelmed, excited, happy what else very, very thankful," said Alex.The bookstore and the just-opened School of Rock are part of an effort to attract younger crowds to the plaza, located at 1555 Camino Del Mar"You just can't apply the same old formula that you had before, so you have to get a new mix of tenants, a new synergistic group of people that bring a variety of age groups to the plaza," said Patty Brutten.Patty and Marc Brutten spent roughly forty-million dollars buying the plaza in 2017."The successes have been very few and far between. It's been a long hard road," said Patty.Competition from One Paseo, Flower Hill Promenade, and online retail has made it tough to attract new tenants."I don't think anyone else would have stuck with it like we do just because we live here, we're community members," said Patty.Since the pandemic hit, some businesses have closed their doors. Lorna Jane, an athletic apparel recently closed. Prep Kitchen is closed just up the street, and a newly opened barbershop is no longer operating. But two new restaurants are moving into the plaza. "We really hope everyone can really rediscover the plaza," said Patty.City leaders say retail and restaurants are struggling, but the most significant hit came when the San Diego County Fair was canceled, and the horse races went on without spectators. "Biggest loss is sales tax from the fairgrounds, and that's close to a million dollars," said Del Mar City Councilman Dave Druker. The city has benefited though from an increase in people at the beach."The beaches have been extremely busy.
