EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man in his mid-30s was killed Sunday afternoon after the SUV he was driving struck a tree in El Cajon.El Cajon police say the driver of a 1998 Ford Explorer drifted onto a center divider then slammed into the tree on N Second Street near Greenfield Drive at 1:49 p.m.The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released pending family notification.Surveillance video from a nearby store shows the impact of the crash and the aftermath. Several good Samaritans ran over to try to help the driver until police arrived.N Second Street between Persimmon Avenue and Greenfield Drive was closed off for approximately four hours as police investigated.Police said it was unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. (KGTV) — Residents were asked to shelter in place in an East County neighborhood due to a gas leak Thursday.The leak was reported at Mollison Ave. and Pear St. just before 12 p.m., according to Heartland Fire Rescue.Officials said the leak was coming from a home's natural gas line and crews would dig under the street to plug the break.Two homes were evacuated. Other nearby residents in the area were also asked to shelter in place and not to run their vehicles as crews worked to fix the break.Mollison Ave. was closed from Greenfield Dr. to Bradley Ave. El Cajon Police and SDG&E crews were also on scene.  669

Investigators said a newer silver four-door sedan ran down the unidentified victim in the intersection of East Chase and Lincoln Ave. about 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6. A witness started CPR on the 58-year-old man but he died of his injuries after he was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital. (KGTV) -- A rally was held Monday afternoon in El Cajon to not only celebrate the holiday season, but to also call on local leaders to fully reopen businesses and schools.The “All I Want for Christmas is Freedom” rally took place at the El Cajon Centennial Plaza, located on 200 Civic Center Way.The event was organized by the group Re-Open San Diego and was a “free and safe family event to save the spirit of Christmas, enjoy food, shopping, listening to the Mayor of El Cajon [Bill Wells] play live music, and to advocate for fully reopening San Diego businesses and schools.”State Sen. Brian Jones, Rep. Darrell Issa, and Peggy Hall with TheHealthyAmerican.org will be among those speaking at the rally.
