EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- The City of El Cajon is hoping someone comes forward to claim a tortoise found traveling the city's sidewalks Thursday afternoon. According to a post of the city's Facebook page, paramedics came across the "patient" slowly making its way down the sidewalk near Emerald and Washington Streets. The city said jokingly that the creature may be suffering a little "shell shock."The tortoise was taken to the El Cajon Animal Shelter to be checked out and held until the owner comes forward. Check out the full Facebook post below:  581

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) — A gas leak in the East County forced several businesses to abruptly close Friday, as crews worked to stop the leak.The gas leak occurred North Marshall Ave. and Petree St. at about 12 p.m. when crews with Helix Water District struck a gas pipe while installing a communications line, according to El Cajon Fire Department.A representative with the water district said HWD personnel arrived at the scene after the rupture had occurred and are not responsible for the damage.Crews evacuated a nearby shopping center, where customers at the Black Bear Diner were given five minutes to leave the area. The leak also forced a nearby Rock Church and school to evacuate.For four hours, several blocks were closed to motorists and MTS trolley and bus service were impacted in the area.SDG&E has since stopped the leak by pinching off a section of the pipe in another area. Crews plan to take an additional two hours to repair the damged section of the gas line.No injuries were reported. 1017

Disney is allowing guests at Magic Kingdom to wear Halloween costumes for the first time during normal park hours.The park recently announced in a blog post that guests of all ages can wear costumes from Sept. 15 to Oct. 31.In June, the park canceled its annual Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party because of the coronavirus pandemic.But this year, guests would be able to get into the Halloween spirit with costumes, themed foods, and merchandise, the park said.According to the park's website, costumes cannot contain sharp objects, they must be family-friendly, they can't have weapons, and anyone over the age of 14 cannot wear a mask with their outfit.Guests under the age of 13 can wear a mask, but it cannot cover the entire face, and their eyes must be visible.The park said costumes that "reach or drag on the ground" such as "full-length princess dresses" are not allowed.The park also added that all guests must still wear a face-covering while at the park. 978

(KGTV) - A plane made an emergency landing Friday on westbound Interstate 8, according to the California Highway Patrol.A 36-year-old student pilot and 25-year-old instructor from California Flight Academy were above El Cajon and had engine trouble about 11:15 a.m., the CHP reported.According to SDSUBaseball's twitter page, the instructor is Ryan Muno, a former Aztec baseball star.Both men were trying to land at Gillespie Field but were forced to touch down on the freeway. The instructor took over the controls and landed safely in lanes near Second Ave."The instructor took over the controls of the plane. EL CAJON (CNS) - A driver whose blood-alcohol content was nearly quadruple the legal limit slammed into the back of a pregnant woman's car in Ramona two years ago, killing the woman and her unborn child, a prosecutor told a jury Wednesday.But a defense attorney denied that his client caused the crash, claiming the prosecution's case was based entirely on circumstantial evidence and a shoddy police investigation.Andrew Milonis, 46, is accused in the Mother's Day 2017 crash that killed 29-year-old Jessica Foderingham and her unborn child, a girl who Foderingham and her husband planned to name Ayanna. The couple then left home for Jessica Foderingham's grandmother's house in Ramona, taking two cars -- Jessica in her Dodge Dart and Christian driving the boys in his Hyundai.He was driving ahead of his wife when he heard a loud bang behind him, saw a dark-colored SUV swerve onto a sidewalk and witnessed his wife's car slam into a tree. He could only confirm that the driver was Caucasian.Clay claimed that at the time of the crash, Milonis was not near the crash scene.The attorney also said the California Highway Patrol "made major mistakes" in their investigation of the case, and that "critical, forensic evidence" had been lost or destroyed, though he did not specify what that evidence was.Clay said he expected the jury to be "angry and want to hold someone responsible.
