KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Johnson County Library is searching for the owner of an old family photo it believes was mistakenly left at the library.A library employee found the photo in the donation bin at the Lackman Library in Lenexa, Kansas."Because of that we don't know who dropped it off, where it came from or who it belongs to," said Josh Neff, an information specialist at the library.The photo was left in the bin in March and the library has been holding on to it ever since."We have been holding on to it hoping that whoever accidentally lost it, would think to come back here and ask about it. But so far nobody has claimed it," said Neff.Now, the library is turning to social media in hopes of finding the photo's owner. On Monday, the library posted the image on Facebook and Twitter."We know the power of social media. We know that it's a great way to spread the message," Neff said. Judge Stephen Reinhardt, a liberal federal appeals court judge who was part of a panel that rejected California's Proposition 8 same-sex marriage ban as unconstitutional, died Thursday, according to a court spokesperson. He was 87.Reinhardt, who served on the US 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, died of a heart attack during a visit to his dermatologist, according to spokesman David Madden.One of the last remaining federal judges appointed by then-President Jimmy Carter, nearly four decades ago, Reinhardt emerged as a staunch critic of the Trump administration's deportation policies and travel ban in the final years of his life."We have lost a wonderful colleague and friend. As a judge, he was deeply principled, fiercely passionate about the law and fearless in his decisions," Chief Judge Sidney R. Thomas of the 9th Circuit said in a statement."He will be remembered as one of the giants of the federal bench. He had a great life that ended much too soon," Thomas said.Trump has slammed the court as being liberal and a symbol of "a broken and unfair" court system.Reinhardt's passing leaves a progressive vacancy on the court for Trump to potentially fill with a conservative vote.Reinhardt was born in New York in 1931. He earned a bachelor's degree from Pomona College in 1951 and a law degree from Yale Law School in 1954, according his biography. In 1979, former President Jimmy Carter appointed him to the appeals court, which is based in San Francisco.Reinhardt's big moment in history would come three decades after his appointment.In 2012, he was part of a three-judge panel that struck down California's voter-approved Proposition 8, arguing that the ban unconstitutionally singled out gays and lesbians for discrimination.In a split decision, the panel found that Proposition 8 "works a meaningful harm to gays and lesbians" by denying their right to civil marriage in violation of the 14th Amendment.Five years later, Reinhardt would become critical of the Trump administration.In March 2017, he had some pointed words for President Donald Trump in an opinion issued when the 9th Circuit refused to rehear the travel ban case."I am proud to be a part of this court and a judicial system that is independent and courageous," wrote Reinhardt, "and that vigorously protects the constitutional rights of all, regardless of the source of any efforts to weaken or diminish them."In May 2017, Reinhardt slammed the Trump administration's deportation policies. He said it was unfair for the government to kick out a 43-year-old coffee farmer who had built a life as a successful businessman in Hawaii. But the judge said he couldn't do anything to halt the deportation."President Trump has claimed that his immigration policies would target the 'bad hombres,'" Reinhardt wrote in an opinion published by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in May 2017. It may seem like an open and shut case, but officials say a confession may not be enough.Joseph and Krystal Daniels were charged in the case of their autistic, 5-year-old son who went missing. He was charged with homicide and Krystal was later arrested and charged with aggravated child neglect or endangerment.Crews in Dickson County, Tennessee vowed they wouldn't stop searching until the young boy was brought home and laid to rest.A legal battle is looming especially since Joe Clyde Daniel's body still has not been found. It is a simple question sure to be asked by the public defender: without a body can prosecutors even prove that Joe Clyde Daniels is dead?Yes, it's true his father Joseph Daniels is said to have confessed to beating the child to death, but without actually having a body it's not a done deal."Certainly it's a more difficult case if they have nothing to back up the confession," said attorney Jim Todd, who's closely followed the case.He said there certainly could be other evidence, perhaps blood from the scene, cadaver dogs hitting on a scent or even witness testimony potentially from the child's mother."There's a good chance, and this is a guess, the wife is charged as a leverage point on her to get her to roll," said Todd.But then there's this: Daniel's father says he believes prosecutors coerced the confession out of his son.  What happens if he recants his statement and insists he is innocent?"The jury will hear the statement and determine on their own if he was coerced or gave this confession or not," said Todd.That situation would only occur if the case goes to trial, and a trial is a long way off. Next up, a preliminary hearing for both parents on June 1.That's when prosecutors will lay out much of their case. Much can change between now and then. The question is: will investigators have found the child's remains in time for the next hearing?Their case could hinge on that development. It's part of a plan to redevelop the former 76 gas station at Pearl Street and Eads Avenue in downtown La Jolla, a station infamous for charging among the highest gas prices in the city. The station has been closed for about the last two years."It's a blighted area on Pearl," said developer David Bourne. "It needs to be developed, and I think this is the highest and best use."Bourne is proposing to turn the former station into a mixed-use development that could serve as an example of future transit-oriented projects. James Shaw never intended to become a hero when he walked into Waffle House on Murfreesboro Pike in Antioch, Tennessee at 3 a.m. on Sunday, but the 29-year-old single father likely saved dozens of lives when he managed to wrestle a loaded AR-15 from the hands of a gunman.James and his friend BJ McMurry had been at a bar nearby on Saturday night. They had initially stopped at the Waffle House on Bell Road but decided it was too crowded and instead drove to the Murfreesboro Pike restaurant, not knowing the chaos and carnage that would soon unfold.For James, a Tennessee State University graduate, the gunfire at first sounded like dozens of plates falling from behind the counter. As the front windows began shattering though, he knew something was wrong."It was pretty chaotic," James said a few hours after the shooting.As Metro Police said Travis Reinking was unloading round after round inside the busy restaurant, James noticed the gun jammed and saw an opportunity to act."It wasn't a process of thinking, it was more of a now... I have to do this now or it's not gonna be. If I let him reload this weapon there won't be another chance. It was like shooting fish in a barrel," James recalled.James Shaw managed to wrestle the weapon from the hands of Travis Reinking. The barrel of the gun was so hot it singed the skin off of his hands and fingers. He would later be taken to the hospital and treated for third degree burns.Metro Police said his actions saved the lives of countless patrons inside the Waffle House but James is still focused on the four people who didn't make it out."I'm sorry I couldn't get to them any faster.
