JACKSONVILLE, Florida — A Florida gas station owner is “sick and tired” of people using the microwave to warm containers of urine. Parul Patel has placed a sign in his store asking customers to stop committing this act. He owns a BP gas station and On the Fly convenience store in Jacksonville, which are within walking distance of two labs. One lab said it does not collect drug test samples. He said that people walk in off the street, microwave their containers and then leave. Warming urine from a person who has not taken drugs is seen by some as a way to pass a drug test. A few months ago a woman became aggressive with Patel when he asked her to not warm urine. KANSAS CITY, Kan. — John Schooley arrived in Wyandotte County Court wearing a black and white jail jump suit.It was a sharp contrast to his Schlitterbahn co-defendant Jeff Henry, who appeared in the same courtroom last week wearing a suit and tie.Schooley and Henry are the designers of the Verrückt water slide.The men are accused of being reckless in their design, and of knowing the slide was dangerous.Ten-year-old Caleb Schwab died on the water slide in 2016.Kansas City, Missouri, Attorney Justin Johnston argued Schooley's bond should be reduced from 0,000 to 0,000.He argued Schooley willingly turned himself in after arriving in Dallas from a business trip in China and isn't a flight risk.Johnston also said Schooley's wife and adult children live in the U.S., he has property in Texas and Alabama and retired from the Verrückt project in April 2015 with HSC Construction.Johnston also said he had letters of support for Schooley from people in the amusement park construction industryBut Wyandotte County Judge Robert Burns ruled against reducing the bond.Judge Burns said the bond was appropriate for the serious charges against Schooley and noted Schooley doesn't have any ties to the Kansas City metro area.Judge Burns also ordered Schooley to give up his passport, which he volunteered to do.As part of the bond, Schooley can't violate any laws.After the hearing, Johnston and Assistant Attorney General Adam Zentner declined comment on the bond ruling. 1517

JAMUL, Calif. (KGTV) - A Jamul man is cleaning up and unsure about how to start over, two weeks after the Valley Fire destroyed his home."Numb is a good word. I've cried, too," said Chuck Stevens, 62.The numbness started on Sept. 5. As the Valley fire approached his home on Northwood Drive early in the evening, Stevens, who was driving home from a baby shower, was turned away by authorities, miles from his home."I saw major flames a quarter-mile from my house ... felt helpless, just helpless," said Stevens.He returned two days later and saw the devastation. His double-wide trailer, his home for the last 15 years, was gone, and so was his truck, car, and two motorhomes."Devastation, everything burned to the ground,' said Stevens.His vehicles were only insured for liability. He didn't have wildfire insurance for his home."They would not give it to me because of the age of the mobile home," said Stevens.Stevens says his most painful loss is the hundreds of photos of his late love, his girlfriend Marilyn Norman, who died of a heart attack two years ago. They were together for more than a decade."Just devastated. I can never look at these photos again ... After years go by, you lose some memories if you don't look at the photos. That's what I really miss," said Stevens.Sadly, family members say they have yet to find any photos of the couple anywhere. JACKSON, Miss. — Mississippi lawmakers are close to erasing the Confederate battle emblem from the 126-year-old state flag. The symbol is under criticism amid nationwide protests against racial injustice. The House and Senate voted Saturday to file a bill to remove the symbol that many see as racist. They could vote on that bill Sunday. A committee would design a new flag including the words “In God We Trust.” Voters would decide in November whether to endorse that design. Religious, education, sports and business leaders are pushing legislators to remove the Confederate symbol. Republican Gov. Tate Reeves said Saturday he will sign a bill to change the flag. 675
