So, Stock decided Coronado would also be a great place to call home. But there was one problem."The turnaround of places is so quick here," said Stock.Knowing anything in his price range might get snatched up in a heartbeat, Stock decided to get proactive and created a post on the Coronado Happenings Facebook page. He was looking for a one or two bedroom rental no later than January 1. Try this city"The mere fact that you're in the military; it gives you a lot of credit right off the bat," said Stock.In Coronado, being in the military practically means you're already vetted. And it worked. Within weeks Stack and his girlfriend found an affordable home near work, right in the middle of paradise. "Facebook is so big now and social media,” said Stock. “It's a lot easier to get your name out that way to people you'll probably never meet rather than hoping you bump into somebody."Stock moves into his new place at the beginning of the new year. 2097

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - With the March 2020 Presidential Primary approaching, the San Diego Registrar of Voters is urging everyone to make sure they are registered properly."This one election is the most complex elections for administrators like ourselves and voters that are out there," says Registrar Michael Vu.With six political parties holding presidential primaries, plus the dozens of overlapping state and local district elections, Vu expects to create more than 12,000 unique versions of the ballot. Rules on who can vote in each party make it even more complicated.In December, Vu's office sent out more than 500,000 mailers to voters to make sure they know the options.Anyone registered with a specific party will only be allowed to vote in that party's primary. Republicans will vote for the Republican candidates, Democrats for Democrats and so on.But, right now more then 30 percent of registered voters in San Diego are listed as "No-Party Preference."For those people, they can choose to vote in the primary for American Independent, Democrat, or Libertarian parties. They cannot vote in the Republican, Green, or Peace and Freedom parties."It makes it a little more confusing," says Vu. "Something that voters need to know what political party status they are in. And if it’s different from the presidential candidates they want to vote for, they need to register or re-register now."To help voters navigate their options, the Registrar has set up a website where people can get all the information they need.The deadline to choose a party, or to choose which primary you want to vote in, is January 6."If you’re a non-partisan voter, now is the time to act," says Vu. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The woman who survived her mother jumping from the Coronado Bridge while holding her got to meet someone who was there that day.Bertha Loaiza was just 3-years-old when her mother leapt from the 246-tall bridge on August 5, 1985.Her mother never came to after hitting the water.“It was the first body I ever saw,” said Fred Maupin who was on his parents’ sailboat near the bridge that day, “at 10-years-old, that sticks with you.”Maupin remembers watching responders pull two bodies out of the water and tried to put the memory in the back of his mind, but says it grew with time.“That’s how it become more tragic and scarring,” said Maupin, “remembering that someone could do that with her baby.”RELATED:?Woman survived her mother's bridge suicide as a toddlerMaupin saw a story about Loaiza on Facebook a few weeks ago and knew he had to meet her in person.Fred hit the road early from Arizona on Friday and the two met for the first time at Gloriettta Bay Park “I feel like I have to apologize,” said Loaiza, “cause he’s gone through it in a different way than I have.”The two hugged then talked for more than an hour — Bertha even got him a gift.“I feel better that he can see that I’m okay,” said Loaiza, “he can remember that instead of the bad stuff.”“Taking a memory that was so haunting and turning the page,” said Maupin, “it’s a better ending to the story than I had in my mind.” 1436

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A new effort is underway to revive a San Diego public golf course that's falling apart.  The "Friends of Presidio Hills Golf" went before the city council Tuesday urging them to take up the issue.  Their plan is to restore the course to its former glory days.Presidio Hills in Old Town is a local golf course with a storied past and an uncertain future."It needs to be completely redone," said John Vallas, who spearheaded the proposal.The place many once called the "cradle of golf" in San Diego is now a long shot from being up to par. 578
