SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Three businesses were destroyed last weekend by an act of hate in Mission Hills.It happened at the 'Capello' and 'Beautiful You' salons Saturday morning. Leather chairs were slashed and destroyed. Appliances and flooring were completely flooded after the culprit left the sinks running all night. "They slashed all of the chairs, styling chairs, shampoo chairs, there was detergent everywhere, shampoo everywhere," said 'Beautiful You' manager, Shanell Cedeno.Even an architecture studio one floor down took a hit from the water that went seeping through the salon's ceiling, damaging blueprints and computers. Management thinks the culprit is a former employee of the salon. "Clearly it has to be someone who has a key," said Cedeno. "It's targeted and it was a hateful act someone who clearly dislikes what we're doing here."The damage is estimated at tens of thousands of dollars. "Karma will definitely take its place first before they find them, I'm sure," said Cedeno. "If it's not happening already, it's coming for them."An investigation is underway. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The oldest San Diego women's choir is scrambling to raise funds for a last-second trip to sing at the Pearl Harbor Memorial Ceremony. The Choral Club of San Diego dazzled crowds from veterans homes to Spreckles Organ Pavillion. They've been singing since 1939."It was a very private women's group. They all got together in their homes and they had tea," Executive Director Caron Andregg said, painting the picture of what the club looked like back then. In 2012, they officially became a 501(c)(3) non-profit and over the past five years they've been tuning to a more modern note."We've filtered out a lot of the older traditional music and we started filtering in more modern music," Andregg said.She said the crowds have loved it and they've ran with it, gaining notoriety and ultimately an invite to the Pearl Harbor Memorial Ceremony. Andregg added someone personally recommended the club to the organizers of the event on Honolulu."Getting 25 ladies to Hawaii is no small task," Music Director Kyle Adam Blair said. The group has been frantically making calls for two weeks, but are not gaining any traction."I can't even get people to pick up their phones ... SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The twists and turns of the coronavirus pandemic have been especially hard on Little Italy's Civico 1845 restaurant."We're counting pennies every day," owner Dario Gallo says. Gallo couldn't get a stimulus Paycheck Protection Program loan and now, it's illegal for him to have guests eat indoors."There's been the moment, earlier in the previous month where things were changing day after day with new regulations," Gallo says. Like all restaurants in the county, Gallo had to figure out how to survive.To do that, he's making full use of the space outside his India Street restaurant, both in the piazza to the side of the building and on the street in what's called a Parklet. He's back up to 85% capacity."We are of course fighting, day after day after day," Gallo said. The city says it's doing all it can to make it easy for restaurants and businesses to move outside, even waving fees for a lot of temporary parklet permits and turning them fast. Still, there are more applications coming. The city said Thursday nearly 250 businesses have the green light to move outside, with another 33 permits in the queue.Marco Polo Cortes, a hospitality consultant who helps businesses apply, including Civico 1845, says he's never been busier."This is their lifeblood. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The restrictions due to the pandemic are exposing us to another threat.Between restaurants and gyms being outside and SDG&E urging energy conservation during the heat wave with all of us at home, we're more exposed to the heat and the potential dangers that come with it.Nurse Practitioner Samantha Gambles Farr works in the ICU for UC San Diego Health and said she's seen a handful of cases in the last month, which is more than normal.Each year, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention says an average of 658 people die from extreme heat in the U.S.Gambles Farr said it's important to know the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke, "when you have heat exhaustion, your skin will be cold, clammy and you'll be sweaty. When you bridge over to heat stroke you'll have no sweating, you'll be red, and your body temperature will be over 103 degrees."Other symptoms for heat exhaustion include:? Muscle cramping ? SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- This past March, as schools shut down and distance learning started, Richard Cowan and his family were one of hundreds who didn't have internet access."We were actually using mobile hot spots or venturing to the library," Cowan said. Then he learned about Connect2Compete, a program through Cox Communications that gave families free internet to start followed by a low cost plan. "We've been able to enhance, and better be prepared for school and a different curriculum that they're requiring now."Cox Communications Vice President of Government and Public Affairs, Chanelle Hawken, said it's just one of the ways they continued to help students stay connected for the fall. "We've put a lot of resources time and energy to connect kids."Cox also partnered with David Harp's Foundation, a music school for low income and at-risk kids. "For them, its even harder in this distance learning environment. They may not be getting the support of family members to help them stay online," Hawken said. They turned the East Village campus into a digital hub with free wifi for underprivilaged students."It's a new world I'll say and we're looking at ways to be creative.
