SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego Padres took a dozen teens undergoing cancer treatment to Spring Training this week.After spending months in and out of Rady Children’s Hospital, the teens say they were excited to get to experience what it feels like to be a normal kid again. “I have osteosarcoma, it's a bone cancer, it was in my leg, and I recently got it is surgically removed,” says patient Nicholas Herrmann. But today, lab tests and screenings are the last things on his mind. “It sounds so fun. We get to go out with a great group of guys and a great group of girls here.”RELATED: San Diego Padres sell out Opening Day game with Manny MachadoThe teens signed their honorary contracts with the Padres and grabbed their jerseys before heading to Peoria, Arizona. For three days, they will get to meet players, attend batting practice and a game versus the Cincinnati Reds. This is the first year for the program. Parents say this trip is an excellent way for the teens to gain independence and form friendships with others. “It's so hard for them. My son is not in school, a lot of other kids aren’t in school either, so they’re not having that social interaction all the time,” says Nichole Elliott- Herrmann. “For us just to see them have fun and have a smile on their face, and not having to go into the hospital is amazing.”Parents will be staying behind for this trip. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after a man died in Fallbrook late Friday night.Deputies responded to the 440 block of Ammunition Road around 10:40 p.m. to assist the North County Fire Department with an injured man.When deputies arrived, they found a man identified as Nicolas Ramirez suffering from an unknown traumatic injury.Ramirez was then taken to the hospital where he later died. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Rock ’n’ Roll marathon returns to San Diego in June, bringing hundreds of athletes and music to city streets. The 5K event is scheduled for Saturday June 1, while the half-marathon and marathon will be held Sunday, June 2. Entry fees are , 2, and 2 respectively. The marathon course starts on Sixth Avenue near Balboa Park. It extends as far east as Kensington, and north to Mission Bay Park, with a finish in Little Italy. Runners can enjoy the sounds of bands along the course, and support from San Diego cheerleading groups. For those who don’t want to run, the Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon Health and Fitness Expo will take place Friday, May 31, and Saturday, June 1 at the San Diego Convention Center. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Thursday, San Diego Sheriff's investigators asked the public for help locating a Fallbrook man who disappeared in 2018.Officials say 50-year-old Arnoldo Loaiza Franco was reported missing on Aug. 10, 2018, by his family in Fallbrook, But the last time Franco had communication with anyone was on Aug. 1. At the time Franco went missing, he was reportedly working somewhere in Escondido or San Marcos at an avocado grove.Franco is described as a Hispanic man, with brown eyes and brown hair, weighing about 140 pounds and about 5-feet 8-inches tall.Anyone with information on Franco's whereabouts is asked to call SDSO's Homicide Unit at 858-285-6286 or the Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 716

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Thousands of people spent their final day of the holiday weekend at San Diego beaches, just as the Beach Hazards Warning expired. Mother of two, Shannon Crais spent the day at Ocean Beach Sunday. "We live a couple of blocks away, so we come down here a couple of times a week."Her daughter Sam likes to play tag with the waves, as they ripple towards her older brother Alex. The Ocean Beach residents say they know the potential dangers of their favorite play area. "I talk to my son about it because he is a little bit bigger," Craig said. "But my daughter, she stays close. We talk about the ocean being dangerous."Sunday afternoon, the National Weather Service dropped the Beach Hazards Warning for all of San Diego County. But all weekend, beachgoers faced strong rip currents and high breaking waves. This was a point of concern for some, but great news for surfers like Jesus Rodriguez. "I think the hurricane is bringing the swell from down south and it has been awesome!" Rodriguez said. Rodriguez says the waves were much better this long holiday weekend thanks to the high surf advisory. They were so good that he had to share the waves with a lot more people than usual. That is why he was doing two-a-day sessions over the last few days. "You get a lot better waves and a lot better form on the wave, so you can start ripping them up," Rodriguez said.
