A local Guamanian grill is using a musical twist to highlight their food, to bring in business.SMACK'N Guamanian Grill offers authentic Chamorro food. Chamorro is the native culture of the Mariana Islands region, including Guam.“All the recipes are authentic and passed down through generations,” says owner Christian Graham.The 24-year-old owner says opening the restaurant was a way to showcase his culture, which is not highly represented in San Diego.“I wanted to highlight what my grandmother, what my family has brought to the Chamorro food, the Chamorro community,” says Graham.When the pandemic hit, the newly opened SMACK'N Guamanian Grill had just opened six months prior.“Sales have dropped quite a bit between 30 to 50 percent,” says Graham. “We ended up losing about 20 percent of our staff members due to the pandemic because of their reduced hours.”As a young owner, Graham decided he needed a new, creative way to bring in business. He created a music video for the Guamanian Grill.“Just something different that restaurants haven’t done in the past.”The video, which launched a little over a week ago, already has hundreds of views on YouTube. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A woman who drove off a Northern California cliff last month in an SUV carrying her wife and children was drunk, authorities said Friday.Toxicology tests found Jennifer Hart had an alcohol level of 0.102, said California Patrol Capt. Bruce Carpenter. California drivers are considered drunk with a level of 0.08 or higher.Toxicology tests also found that her wife Sarah Hart and two of their children had "a significant amount" of an ingredient commonly found in the allergy drug Benadryl, which can make people sleepy. Toxicology results for a third child killed are still pending, Carpenter said.Carpenter said none of the car's occupants were wearing seatbelts.Sarah and Jennifer Hart and their six adopted children were believed to be in the family's SUV when it plunged off a cliff in Mendocino County, more than 160 miles (250 kilometers) north of San Francisco.Authorities have said that data from the vehicle's software suggested the crash was deliberate, though the California Highway Patrol has not concluded why the vehicle went off an ocean overlook on a rugged part of coastline. (KGTV) - A new California law could let convicted killers out of prison, and San Diego County's district attorney said her office will fight it on a case-by-case basis.Senate Bill 1437 passed the state Legislature last year and went into effect on January 1. It narrows the definition of murder so that only people who are involved in a killing can be charged with that crime.Before the law, accomplices in a killing could also have been charged with murder."It may let murderers go free, because of how far it goes," said San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan.Stephan said her office will challenge some re-sentencing hearings based on the new law, although she said they don't know how many there will be.One possible case involves Kurese Bell, who He as convicted of murder in 2016 for his role in the robbery of a North Park marijuana dispensary.During the robbery, Bell and another man, Marlon Thomas, got into a shootout with a security guard at the dispensary. The guard shot and killed Thomas.The DA's office argued that Bell should face murder charges because his actions in the robbery led to the shootout and, ultimately, Thomas' death.Bell is currently serving a 65-year-to-life sentence.Stephan said criminals need to be held accountable for the crimes they commit and cause."It's really important that each offender is held culpable at the right level," she said. "That's what justice is about."Supporters of the new law say it is a vital part of California's efforts at criminal justice reform. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Drugs and graffiti were just some of the problems filling parks around San Diego, with most of the activity happening during the night hours. A curfew has now been put in place for several parks.Community members and city leaders threw a party Friday morning to celebrate the change. Residents have been rallying for a curfew at City Heights Square Mini Park, which sits in the middle of an assisted living facility for seniors. Neighbors say before the curfew, they observed everything from gangs and drugs at the park. “We are this beautiful community,” says Delia Contreras. “We have kids, we have a lot of good things, but the drugs are no good.”Since the beginning of the year, 217 crimes have been reported within a 1,500 feet radius of the park. The crimes include assault, theft, and vandalism. “To me, San Diego is a paradise, and we need to clean up the whole town,” says Ronald Tieken. City Heights Square Mini Park will now have a nightly curfew from 9 pm to 5 am. There were other parks around the city with the same problems. Cedar Ridge Mini Park, Montclair Neighborhood Park, North Park Community Park and North Park Mini Park. These parks will now have a curfew of midnight to 6 a.m. “It took a lot of time because we didn’t want to take just one site, so we opened it up for other sites to bring their concerns in, and five parks were identified to go forward with it,” says Raul Contreras, with the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.
