A toddler was found in a cage during an animal rescue operation in Henry County.Henry County, Tennessee, Sheriff’s deputies raided a home with several outbuildings in the northern portion of the county Thursday.The child, who is under the age of two, was found in a cage in the same room as several large constricting snakes next to a box of live mice. The child was filthy, but unharmed and is now in DCS custody. A source said the reptiles could have easily killed the toddler.Deputies found several large marijuana plants and the group rescued more than 100 animals from the home.District attorney Matt Stowe says the child's parents and a grandparent were taken into custody. Prosecutors have charged a 17-year-old from Illinois in the fatal shooting of two protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and the wounding of a third. Kenosha County District Attorney Michael Graveley filed the charges against Kyle Rittenhouse Thursday afternoon. The charges include one count of first-degree intentional homicide; one count of first-degree reckless homicide; one count of attempted first-degree intentional homicide; two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment. All those charges are felonies. He could face a mandatory life sentence if convicted of first-degree intentional homicide, the most serious crime in Wisconsin. Colorado is the latest state to move forward with a red flag law.Since the Parkland shooting, at least 9 states have passed laws allowing police to take guns from people who pose a significant threat to themselves or others.However, some members of law enforcement are fighting back. “What I’m refusing to do is enforce a law I believe, and I believe my constituent base is in agreement,” says Sheriff Steve Reams with the Weld County Sheriff’s Office in Greely, Colorado. “I can't enforce a law I believe goes against our state constitution or our federal Constitution.” Sheriff Reams is likely the loudest voice opposing Colorado’s red flag law. Half of the state’s county governments have passed resolutions, saying they don't want to enforce the law, which allows people to flag authorities about others who may be suicidal or dangerous. Police would then be able to take their guns. Critics argue gun owners don't have a fair chance to defend themselves, before their weapons are confiscated. “I don't believe this bill is constitutional,” Sheriff Reams says. “I've said that many times over. I'll continue to say that until [the] bill [is] modified in a way that makes sense and addresses the real issue, which is mental health.”Fourteen states have passed the red flag, including Florida, New York, Delaware, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont, California, Connecticut, Indiana, Oregon and Washington. One study found the Connecticut law reduced gun suicides by more than 10 percent in recent years, and the Indiana law led to a 7.5 percent drop. But in California, the red flag law did not stop a 28-year-old veteran with a long history of mental health issues from opening fire at bar, killing 12 people, because no one filed a petition with a court. “A flu shot is only good if you take it right, and so, I think part of what law enforcement is learned is having laws on the book is one thing, but having the confidence and understanding and training to use them is quite another,” says David Chipman with Giffords, an organization aimed at fighting gun violence. Ali Schroer was on board when her doctor told her she could save hundreds of dollars a month on her allergy medication by ordering it online. “I was a new professional and just trying to save some money, because it was so expensive,” Schroer says. She ordered the prescription on a website that claimed to be an online Canadian pharmacy. “It looked exactly like what I had been taking for years and years, and so, I really didn't think anything of it,” she says. But in a few weeks, she started to feel strange. “I had stomach pains and headaches and kind of achiness,” she recalls. “I would go almost into shock, like I would really get clammy and hot and get like these fever spikes.”When she told a family member about the medication she got online, they did some research and found the site had a reputation for selling counterfeit drugs. Schroer says she threw the medication away, and in within weeks, she felt completely better. Her story is a cautionary tale of the dangers of purchasing medications online. The FDA recently issued a warning letter about the Canadian drug distributor CanaRx, saying it supplied "unapproved" and "misbranded" drugs to consumers in the United States. “If you order medicines online and think they're getting them from Canada, they're probably not coming from Canada,” says Dr. Carmen Catizone, executive director of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy. “If you walk into a pharmacy in Canada, then those are medications that are safe enough that are approved by Canada.” An attorney for the company says CanaRx only facilitates the sale of drugs by American pharmaceutical companies licensed by the FDA in original packaging. However, Dr. Catizone says because the U.S. can't regulate drugs from other countries, it's hard to know exactly where drugs you buy online come from. “If something sounds too good to be true, it's probably too good to be true for something that's licensed for a site, where you can get information from a state agency or federal government about,” Dr. Catizone explains.
