A college student from Georiga's jail sentence was reduced from four months to two months on Tuesday in the Cayman Islands after she and her boyfriend violated strict COVID-19 measures last month.According to The New York Times and CNN, the Cayman Islands Court of Appeal reduced 18-year-old Skylar Mack and her 24-year-old boyfriend Vanjae Ramgeet's prison sentence, saying the initial sentence "was not appropriate."Last week, Mack and Ramgeet were sentenced to four months after they both violated the island's mandatory two-week quarantine.Per the Associated Press, Mack arrived on the island on Nov. 27, but on Nov. 29, she broke quarantine by leaving with her boyfriend to attend a water sports event.According to The Times, Mack and Ramgeet initially pleaded guilty to breaking the quarantine rules and were to complete 40 hours of community service. They were also fined ,100.But last week, the prosecutor appealed the ruling saying the sentences were too lenient and a judge sentenced to four months in jail.The Cayman Compass reported that Mack nor Ramgeet plan to appeal the Court of Appeal's ruling. 1121

A Clarksville teacher was charged with assault after an incident with a student during a field trip to Nashville was reported to police.According to an affidavit from Metro Nashville Police, Robert Neitzke – a teacher at Clarksville Academy – was arrested after he allegedly grabbed a student by his throat and pushed him against a wall.The alleged incident happened on March 3 while a group of students were staying at the Renaissance Hotel in Nashville. The police report said that Neitzke was the only adult on the trip.Around 11 p.m., Neitzke was reportedly trying to give students instructions for the next day and had to stop several times to get their attention. That’s when one of the students asked, “can we hurry this up,” and Neitzke allegedly approached the student and started to grab him. Police said Neitzke then said “it would be funny if your head hit the wall” before backing up and then grabbing the student by the neck before pushing him against the wall.The student told officers that he was able to say "get off me" and push him back. He told police that while he had no visible injuries, the squeezing of his neck caused “some discomfort.”Several other students were interviewed and all gave a very similar account of the incident, according to the report. A local mom has joined Tennessee lawmakers to back a bill that would require a prescription bottle design change in order to save young lives.Betty Mason of Green Hills, Tennessee lost her daughter, Katy to an opioid overdose in May 2016. "Great IQ, great student, great athlete. She had everything in the world going for her and it...her future was bright and it came to an abrupt halt with this," Mason said.Doctors told Mason that Katy was in the hospital on life support after the apparent overdose.Mason said her daughter started experimenting with prescription drugs after eighth grade with friends.She said for five years her daughter's big smile would fade during her time in and out of three treatment facilities.Mason hoped a state proposed bill, Pilfering Prevention Act, would help curb Tennessee's opioid epidemic.The act would allow prescription bottles for drugs considered severely psychologically or physically addicting to have a 4-number combination lock.Each patient would be assigned a pin number to unlock the container.Dr. Sterling Haring with Vanderbilt University Medical Center contributed to a John Hopkins report which recommended updating prescription packaging. The update would apply to only Schedule II prescriptions, meaning substances that have a high potential for abuse which may lead to severe psychological or physical dependence.Most prescription bottles haven't changed for 50 years."But to me if your boat is sinking, the first step is to plug the hole and then you start bailing the water out. A man in Colorado who was sentenced to more than 300 years in prison for child sex crimes in 2015, is now walking free after his conviction was thrown out on a technicality.Michael Tracy McFadden, 46, was convicted for 19 counts of sexual offenses, including a habitual sex offender against children, according to KKCO. McFadden was released from the Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility on Tuesday.In June, the Colorado Court of Appeals found that McFadden's right to a speedy trial was violated when the judge in the case granted a continuance. When the court ruled that his statutes were violated, they threw out his conviction."Frankly I'm completely appalled with the decision," District Attorney Dan Rubenstein told KREX. "I find it offensive that our justice system would allow this to happen."Rubenstein explained to KREX that speedy trials are broken down into two categories: constitutional and statual.Constitutional speedy trials have no timeframe, depending on the case. However, in Colorado, statutory speedy right trials require a time frame of six months.Rubinstein told reporters, “Because the error here was that he shouldn’t have been tried longer than six months from the last time he waived speedy trial, there was no remedy for that, and therefore there is no ability to retry him." "The justice system completely failed in this situation.
