About 40 percent of babies born in the United States were born to mothers who were not married, in 2015 according to the United Nations.The statistic comes from the UN Population Fund's annual report, which notes that the rate has steadily increased since 1970, when only 10 percent of children were not born to married parents.The trend is consistent with many Western countries — 60 percent of children were born to unmarried parents in the European Union in 2015, an increase from just under 20 percent in1970.The UN notes that while mothers may not waiting for marriage to have children, it's likely that the children are still growing up with two parents. The study notes that in 2010, 1 in 10 European children lived with a single mother, while 1 in 4 in children lived with an unmarried couple.The study also notes that mothers in the United States are waiting longer to have children. After actor Sacha Baron Cohen released his first Borat movie in 2006, Kazakhstan, the nation in which the fictional character Borat is from, was unhappy with its portrayal, so they banned the film and threatened to sue Cohen.Well, it seems that's water under the bridge because, on Sunday, the Kazakhstan tourism board released a new marketing campaign by embracing Borat's catchphrase "very nice!" as its official tourism slogan.According to the New York Times, after seeing the trailer for "Borat Subsequent Moviefilm," Dennis Keen, an American who now lives in Kazakhstan, asked the country’s tourism officials to welcome the Borat character's catchphrase and turn it into the country's tourism slogan.In the video, visitors to Kazakhstan exclaim "very nice!" after experiencing the countryside, food, and traditions.After hearing about the campaign, Cohen via a statement to The Times said the country, which borders China and Russia, portrayed in his movie "has nothing to do with the real country" and is "opposite of Borat's version.""Borat Subsequent Moviefilm" is available to stream on Amazon Prime. 1117

Amazon is postponing it's Prime Day sale because of the pandemic.The massive sales bonanza normally takes place in mid-July.Amazon told CNN that they would be holding Prime Day "later than usual."The company says it will share more details soon.Prime Day is Amazon's version of Christmas in July, and sales during the two-day event have consistently outpaced Black Friday sales.Prime members in India are in luck, however.Amazon announced prime day there is on for August 6 and 7.Everyone else will have to wait. 520

A Masai giraffe calf died on Tuesday at the Columbus Zoo in Ohio shortly after its mother, Cami, was given an emergency Cesarean section in an effort to save both the mother and calf. According to the Columbus Zoo, veterinarians and zoo staff recognized that Cami was going into labor Tuesday afternoon, but that the giraffe calf was presenting rear hooves first. The zoo said that it is rare for calves to survive when born rear hooves first.That is when a decision was made for veterinarians to enter Cami's stall. It also meant that a webcam of the birth broadcasted by National Geographic was shut off. Veterinarians from the zoo and Ohio State University first attempted to remove the calf manually. When that did not work, they performed the emergency Cesarean section.Unfortunately, their efforts were futile. "Cesarean sections in giraffes are extremely rare and typically conducted as a last resort due to the high risks involved in putting giraffes under anesthesia and successful recovery," the zoo said in a statement. "After the calf was extracted via Cesarean section, the veterinary team found that the calf had serious congenital defects and thus would not have survived even if it had been born front hooves first."The zoo said Cami’s condition was stable, but her prognosis remains guarded as of late Tuesday evening. Zoo staff will continue to monitor her condition. Tuesday's failed birth marks the second giraffe calf the zoo has lost in recent weeks. On November 17, Ubumwe, an 18-day-old calf died at the zoo. The cause of Ubumwe's death remains unknown, and a full pathology report is being conducted to determine the cause of death. According to information from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, giraffe calves have a 25 percent mortality rate. This is compared to roughly a 50-percent mortality rate for giraffe calves born in the wild, according to the association.  2007
