Eventually, the woman crashed into a support beam of the Sushi Hana Restaurant, coming to a stop. Everyone inside the restaurant was evacuated, the OnScene photographer reported. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A woman's trip to Mission Bay ended with her, and her car, soaked. The woman, who identified herself as Candy, said she was next to her car on a boat ramp preparing to unload her kayak for a day of fishing and roaming around Mission Bay. Suddenly, her 2002 Audi convertible started rolling as she was unloading gear.Candy jumped into the car and road it into the bay as she tried to get her emergency brake to engage."It just wouldn't. It just kept on going," Candy told 10News. "I was standing straight up in it as it was going down ... quite a scene, I'm sure."The car started sinking into the bay with Candy still inside, before she jumped out to swim back to shore. Her lunch and kayak floated to the other side of the bay as her car became completely submerged, she told 10News."I'm going to have plenty of fish now," she joked. "It's not a big deal, things happen."Two tow trucks were able to fish Candy's vehicle out of the bay and San Diego Lifeguards retrieved her car and kayak, in which she had left her purse and lunch.Candy said she had just purchased the car in November.San Diego Lifeguards reminded locals to exercise caution while using boat ramps. 1216

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Airbnb is warning would-be party-goers this Halloween that weekend parties at San Diego listings are banned and guests could face legal action if they violate the policy. The rental booking platform banned parties at all of its listings in August and capped occupancy at 16 people as a precaution due to the pandemic. Airbnb has also banned one-night reservations over the Halloween weekend across the country."The great majority of guests are respectful of our hosts’ homes and neighbors, and we understand that this initiative will disrupt many one-night reservations that might not have led to parties. This action is designed to help protect our hosts and the communities they live in," Airbnb said in a release.RELATED:San Diego City Attorney shuts down 'COVID-19 party mansion' in La JollaBankers Hill Airbnb ‘party house’ shut down over COVID-19 concerns, other violationsGuests who have a reservation for two or more days this weekend will be required to agree to Airbnb's policy against parties. The platform's crackdown on parties comes after the county closed a "COVID party mansion" in La Jolla that had been the subject of at least 30 calls to police "nuisance activity." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An appeals court Friday granted a stay against a San Diego judge's recent ruling allowing strip clubs and restaurants to reopen despite the state's coronavirus restrictions. The decision by the Fourth District Court of Appeals, District One, freezes an earlier ruling, forcing restaurants to again only offer takeout and delivery service, per California's recent health order. Any opposition to the state's filing must be submitted by noon Wednesday.Lawyers for the state argued against the Superior Court ruling, saying it was overreach since no restaurants were parties in the suit filed by two strip club operators.RELATED: San Diego County to appeal ruling on strip clubs, restaurants amid health ordersCounty Supervisor Jim Desmond said in a statement the decision one day after some restaurants reopened was "tragic." "Today's decision to close restaurants one day after they were allowed to open is tragic for San Diego's workforce. The seesawing of people's livelihoods one week before Christmas is devastating," Desmond said in a statement.Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said in his own statement that the appeals court made the right call as cases surge."This is the right decision to protect our communities given the severity of cases and hospitalizations we are experiencing in San Diego County. Everyone should stay home unless it is absolutely essential," Fletcher said. This week, a judge ruled in favor of Pacers Showgirls and Cheetahs Gentleman's Club, which were forced to close in October due to coronavirus restrictions. The ruling was in response to a preliminary injunction granted to the clubs in November that protected them from some enforcement.RELATED COVERAGE:Not all San Diego restaurants will reopen, despite court orderSan Diego restaurants ready to reopen for indoor and outdoor dining after judge's rulingThat ruling protected strip clubs and "San Diego County businesses with restaurant service.""The court’s intention is that all businesses which provide restaurant service — meaning all restaurants in the County of San Diego — are encompassed in the scope of the court’s order. It’s not limited to plaintiffs who also provide restaurant service, but it is intended to encompass all restaurants within the County of San Diego,” said San Diego Superior Court Judge Joel R. Wohlfeil. The county's Board of Supervisors voted Friday to appeal the ruling but said the county would only argue against the provisions that allow strip clubs to operate and indoor dining amid California's regional stay-at-home order."The Board voted to appeal the order. But the Board directed County Counsel to only argue that the order is incorrect as it relates to the continued operation of strip clubs and the allowance of indoor dining. We support outdoor dining with appropriate safety protocols that have been previously established. We remind everyone that the virus is still out there. Please continue to cover your face, wash your hands and avoid gatherings," Chairman Greg Cox said in a statement. The recent restaurant closures come after the regional dipped under the state's ICU bed capacity threshold. The Southern California region, which includes San Diego County, hit 0% capacity on Thursday and sat at that availability on Friday.Friday, San Diego County set a record for daily coronavirus cases, reporting 3,611 new cases. 3375

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - After 27 years, Mysterious Galaxy, a popular sci-fi bookstore in the Clairemont area, may have to close its doors. In a post on the store's website, the owners say they are looking for a buyer to take over the store on Balboa Avenue and move it, as their lease expires in 60 days. "It is with heavy hearts that we share that unless a new buyer and new location are found immediately, Mysterious Galaxy will be forced to close its doors," reads the post.Manager Kelly Orazi says it's "devastating" to see the store shut down.RELATED: Sears, Kmart stores slated for closure in months ahead, company says"We're a hub for people who love books," she says. "(People) Who love reading, who love writing. It's really something special."If it closes, Mysterious Galaxy will join a handful of other small, locally-owned bookstores to close recently in San Diego. In 2018, Villainous Lair shut its doors, as did the Adams Avenue Bookstore. And Lhooq Books in Carlsbad may do the same, as that location is facing eviction. But, on the whole, the independent bookstore industry is thriving across America.RELATED: San Diego area Forever 21 stores may close under Chapter 11According to the American Booksellers Association, the number of independent bookstores has gone up every year for the last decade, even as overall retail sales are down. Experts say it's because shoppers are looking for a more personal, intimate experience than what they can get online or at a major retail chain. That's what Diesel Bookstore is hoping to capitalize on. That store just opened at the end of October in the Del Mar Highlands mall."We offer bestsellers, but we also offer a curated selection of books in every subject manner," says Manager Iris Halperin. "People want an experience that's different, that's fun, that's unique. That's what Diesel brings."RELATED: Poway's 'Disneyland for discount hunters' to close next yearHalperin says the goal for the store can be summed up in a quote that the store's owner often references: "A book store is part school, part party, part counseling center and part creative workshop. It's street theater at its best. It is fun, moving, challenging, complex, and deeply rewarding work."Orazi agrees and is hoping there's still time for a plot twist that will keep Mysterious Galaxy open."We're looking for an owner that can come in, buy the bookstore, support the bookstore, find a new location for us or help us find a new location, and, hopefully, we'll be able to continue providing books and bringing magic to people for years to come. 2577
