A Democratic candidate in Wisconsin's gubernatorial race released a campaign ad showing her breastfeeding while detailing her efforts to ban the use of Bisphenol A in baby bottles and sippy cups in the state. In the ad, Kelda Roys talks about her effort to pass legislation that prohibited the use of the chemical, known as BPA, while she was in the state Assembly; as she describes her legislative activities, her husband hands their daughter to her and she begins to breastfeed.BPA is used in plastics for consumer product packaging and resin for can linings.Roys was a state lawmaker from 2009 to 2013 and served as Democratic caucus chair. In her gubernatorial campaign, she is advocating universal paid family and sick leave, equal pay for women, a minimum wage, widely expanded health care access, and full access to reproductive care for women. This isn't the first time that candidates have employed bold moves in campaign ads as a strategy. Tom Perriello, a Democratic candidate for governor of Virginia last year, stood in front of an ambulance being crushed, saying it was a metaphor for the House GOP passing a bill to dismantle the Affordable Care Act. And back in 2014, then-Republican Senate candidate Joni Ernst caught the national spotlight when she compared castrating hogs to cutting spending in a campaign ad.If Roys wins the Democratic primary in August, she will likely face Republican incumbent Scott Walker, who is running for a third term.  1480

A fraternity headed to trial Monday for the hazing death of a pledge in Monroe County, Pennsylvania.Attorneys gave their opening statements in Monroe County in the trial of Pi Delta Psi fraternity. The brutal hazing and how the brothers tried to cover it up.The defense says the organization has a no-hazing policy and does not condone the acts that were committed by the members.Officials say if the organization is found guilty, it faces fines and suspension of its rights to continue operating in the state of Pennsylvania. Please note: This content carries a strict local market embargo. A bronze statue of the late United States Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will be unveiled in Brooklyn next year.According to a press release, the statue will permanently reside at the City Point development in downtown Brooklyn and unveiled on March 15, which would have been the late justice's 88th birthday."In her lifetime, Justice Ginsburg championed countless crucial causes. This statue is just a small reminder that we all need to set the highest possible standards for ourselves and society," Chris Conlon, EVP and Chief Operating Officer of Acadia Realty, said in the release. "From the people who work here, to the diverse shoppers and shopping at City Point, everyone feels welcome, equal, and respected. We are honored to have this great statue grace our property, and to bring Justice Ginsburg's 'path marking' spirit back to Brooklyn to inspire us for generations."Artist duo Gillie and Marc design the statue as part of their "Statues for Equality" series, which have already installed 10 sculptures of women around New York City. Ginsburg's figure is the eleventh in their series."We had the honor and privilege to create Justice Ginsburg's likeness in everlasting bronze as a part of Statues for Equality," the artist duo said. "The final statue, which she endorsed, reflects her wish to be depicted in a dignified manner." The artists continue, "With the two steps on its large base representing the Supreme Court and the climb she made to get there, the work is designed to provide the public with an opportunity to stand at her side, and gain inspiration from her journey fighting for equal rights." 1638

A family has closure on Memorial Day after a missing World War II bomber lost at sea nearly 75 years ago. was discovered near Papua New Guinea thanks to a Scripps Oceanographer and his team.Scott Althaus keeps a replica of the B-24 bomber which became the final resting place for his cousin during World War II."This was done by a professional model builder in Camarillo," Althaus said via Skype from Illinois.Lt. Tom Kelly was the bombardier on the crew "Heaven Can Wait." They were part of the famous squadron known as the "Jolly Rogers."On March 11, 1944, while on a mission to bomb Japanese anti-aircraft batteries around Hansa bay in the South Pacific, the 11 person crew was shot down by enemy fire."My family had been involved in what was then a four-year research project," Althaus said. They gave that research to Project Recover. The group of marine scientists, archeologists, and historians went to work using science and advanced technology to find missing aircraft with servicemen still onboard."It's really easy to look on a map and say, 'hey, x marks the spot.' And it turns out that x could be several square miles,'" said Eric Terrill, Co-Founder of Project Recover and a Scripps OceanographerIn October 2017, Terrill and his team set out on a three-week expedition.  "These robots allow us to do very detailed surveys of the seabed using scanning sonar," he said. After 11 days on the water covering roughly six thousand acres and talking to fishermen, they found the wreckage."It was a mixture of elation and sadness," he said. "It's very humbling knowing this is really a grave site of historical importance."Althaus' cousin was no longer just a name and a face in black and white."For the first time in 74 years, we've seen what his grave looks like and that is a priceless gift," Althaus said.Today, there are still more than 72,000 missing U.S. service members from WWII. "There are stories like this all around the country of an uncle or a father or a grandfather that never returned home," Terrill said. "It's remarkable to think that [families] carry this loss for that many decades and then to actually see it play out is just amazing."Lieutenant Kelly's family has already been in contact with the families of seven other crew members on the plane. They're hoping the military will recover the remains from the wreckage. 2379
