PALM HARBOR, Fla. — A rare two-headed southern black racer snake was recently found at a home in Palm Harbor.Kay Rogers said her cat brought the snake into the home through the doggy door. The cat placed the snake on the carpet."She brings us presents all the time. This day, my daughter sent me a message. 'Mom, she brought in a snake, and it has two heads,'" Rogers saif. "I think this tops it, but she's an adventurous cat for sure."Rogers said her 13-year-old daughter, Avery, placed the snake in a plastic container. She said her daughter and her son like learning about reptiles."We went and got like a habitat setup for it. I was talking to a couple different reptile specialists and they were kind of helping me through what to do with him like getting him a heating pad and trying to feed him," Rogers said. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission shared the story on Facebook. FWC said the phenomenon, bicephaly, is uncommon, but happens during embryo development when two monozygotic twins failed to separate, leaving the heads conjoined onto a single body.FWC says that both heads' tongue flicks and react to movement, but not always in the same way. Two-headed snakes are unlikely to survive in the wild, as the two brains make different decisions that inhibit the ability to feed or escape from predators."Because of the two head thing, he's very uncoordinated and couldn't get to the food very well. It was like one head would see the food and try to go for it, the other would be going the other way and pulling him back," Rogers said. The snake is currently being cared for and monitored by FWC staff."He was really an easy pet," Rogers said. I really just wanted to kind of see him thrive and have people that would take care of him and give him the best chance. I know, well my daughter's research shows they don't live well in the wild at all. I know captivity was the best hope for him."This story was originally published by Dan Trujillo on WFTS in Tampa, Florida. 2006
PITTSBURGH - A US Postal Service employee is on leave after bags of undelivered mail were found on the side of the street for trash pick-up outside a home near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, according to multiple reports.Several bags were reported to the US Postal Service Office of Inspector General Sunday and they are investigating. An agent with the USPS OIG says the bags contained a variety of mail.“USPS OIG Special Agents recovered several different classes of mail, including business mail, flats, and small amount of first class mail. We expect to perform a piece count of the mail today, and make arrangements to have the mail delivered to customers as soon as feasible,” Special Agent Scott Balfour said in a statement released Tuesday.“Once USPS OIG special agents conclude their investigation, the case will be presented for federal prosecution to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.”A post office employee is on leave without pay in connection with this investigation. This is the second time in just the last week a mail person is under investigation for allegedly not delivering mail.According to WPXI, the other incident was caught on surveillance camera, showing a postal carrier dumping mail inside a garbage can. Agents say a ballot application and political advertisements were found.Balfour noted that the Postal Service has 630,000 employees and the majority are "hard-working, trustworthy individuals" who work around the clock to deliver the country’s mail. "Incidents of this nature are exceedingly rare when put into that context," he said in a statement to CNN. 1583

PHOENIX — A high school play with controversial costumes has some parents outraged.Three students at the Arizona State University Preparatory Academy Phoenix campus dressed in Ku Klux Klan costumes for a school play. Parents say the school never notified them or the rest of the student body that was not in the drama class. The popular play, "The Foreigner," was performed at an assembly for all high school students. "Three students dressed as the KKK walked down the middle of the assembly as part of a play," explained one parent, who wanted to remain anonymous at his daughter's request. "They were in hooded robes."The Klansmen are part of the scripted comedy play but this parent says the characters could have easily been portrayed without "full regalia.""We can talk about racial prejudice, we can talk about the insensitivity, but to have our children put on the robes and assume the characters, it's wrong...There is no justification for it," the parent said.A spokesperson for ASU Preparatory Academy issued the following statement: 1066

POINT LOMA, Calif. (KGTV) - A popular Pacific Beach restaurant is finding new life in Liberty Station, and it could be a sign of things to come for the industry.Latin Chef was forced out of its longtime home on Garnet Avenue in January. This Saturday, it will reopen at Liberty Public Station."There's not much," says owner Fredy Palma of his small space in the market. "But you won’t believe that very tasty food is going to come from here."Palma says his rent will be about half of what it used to be in Pacific Beach. He also says moving into the Public Market means he no longer has to worry about all of the little things that come along with having a brick-and-mortar location."Things like trash, telephone, light, SDG&E," he explains. He says this will let him focus more on the food and customers. It will also bring more foot traffic than what he had on Garnet.RELATED: Business booming in Pacific Beach despite empty storefrontsExecutives at Blue Bridge Hospitality, which owns Liberty Public Market, reached out to Palma after seeing a story about his struggles on 10News. "I was listening to how he was having to vacate his space and thinking, wow, this seems like a perfect fit for Liberty Public Market," says David Spatafore with Blue Bridge Hospitality.Typically, Blue Bridge Hospitality had offered spots at the market to new businesses. Latin Chef will be the first established restaurant to move into the space."Overhead keeps going up and up and up," says Spatafore. "The idea behind the Public Market is it’s kind of a condo association of retailers and restaurants to lower overhead and share expenses, making it a little easier for them. Certainly, I can see this being a wave of the future to lower overhead because there aren’t many options left."The public market concept has grown in San Diego over the last few years. Liberty Public Market opened in 2016. Since then, Little Italy has gotten a similar Food Hall, and North Park is expecting the Dam Public Market to open.RELATED: New Public Market in North Park opens for previewRELATED: Public Square opens next to Little Italy Food Hall" I think you’ll see small markets pop up throughout in kind of that communal living spirit in communities throughout San Diego," says Spatafore. For Palma, it means he gets to keep making the food he loves."It's exciting," he says. 2359
