SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Rock Church is making holiday giving even easier, teaming up with Express Feedback for Good to raise money for their Toys for Joy campaign.Under the new program, people can sign up to take on-line surveys. For each one they take, the Church will get towards their holiday fundraiser."This is a life or death situation for some kids and some families," says Pastor Miles McPherson.The Toys for Joy program is now in its 23rd year. Each year the Church helps around 20,000 families with food, clothing, toys, and more for the holidays. McPherson says he hopes the new survey tool will inspire people to do more."The express feedback tool gives people the opportunity to do something to help somebody, but we want them to take the next step, touch a person, smile at a person, hear someone's story," he says.The surveys only take about one minute each, and there's a limit of 100 per person. The Church says they hope to raise 0,000 from the surveys, to help supplement the other donations they get each year.The company, Express Feedback for Good, takes the information from the survey and sells it to businesses to help them serve their customers better."It's a win/win for both parties," says Product Manager Dena Coykendall. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Food Bank on Thursday selected 35 nonprofit organizations around the county with the goal of giving them the food and supplies they need to continue helping families in their area.La Maestra Community Health Center provides health and support services to families from the South Bay to East County. Many of those they serve come from low-income households.Before the COVID-19 pandemic, they helped about 300 families a week. Since then, that number has doubled, and they’re now feeding close to 600 families a week.At a news conference with mayors from San Diego, Chula Vista, and Escondido, the San Diego Food Bank announced the kickoff of their “Super Pantries” program, where they have partnered with 35 pre-selected organizations.Instead of holding the mass distribution food events that they’ve done in the past, the Food Bank will now focus on providing these organizations with food and supplies.San Diego Food Bank President/CEO James Floros said, “Now with the grass roots approach, they can go into their communities and get what they need.”Each organization will also get a check for ,000. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The woman killed after a loose dog on State Route 94 caused a chain-reaction crash has been identified.Grace Villar, 53, died Saturday after the Toyota Camry she was in was hit from behind by a Dodge pickup truck, according to a report by San Diego's Medical Examiner. Traffic in front of the Camry was stopped due to a loose dog in the highway.Villar was one of three people in the vehicle taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital following the crash.According to the California Highway Patrol, a Ford F-150 owned by the San Diego Humane Society was parked in the median of the highway to wrangle a loose dog, when the dog ran into traffic.Cars were forced to stop and some swerved in the process, including the car Villar was traveling in. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The place where an 87-year-old woman was hit and killed by a FedEx truck, is now covered with candles, flowers, and messages from loved ones.Mary Francel was a mother to eight and grandmother to dozens more.She was walking back from church and crossing a driveway on Balboa Avenue near Mount Albertine Avenue when the FedEx truck hit her. The driver immediately stopped after the crash."She was very much well-loved and she put all of us first at all times, it was never about her," said Joey Villegas, one of Francel's grandchildren. "I wrote her and told her thank you, for how much she taught us. Me and my brother, she basically helped raise us when we were young."Villegas says his grandma loved bingo, drove a big truck and was incredibly devoted to her family and friends.At this time the driver has not been arrested or cited for the accident.   890
