New heart health research found that taking a low-dose daily aspirin to cut chances of a heart attack or stroke may have risks that outweigh the benefits.The latest studies revealed the effects of the blood-thinning, anti-inflammatory drug on patients, who did not yet develop heart disease or other heart-related issues but were at moderate risk.Research found aspirin does help patients with diabetes, who are at higher risk to develop or die from heart problems. However, the risk of serious bleeding far outweighed the benefit of taking the drug.The study found aspirin was not effective in preventing heart attacks or strokes for moderate risk patients, because they had other health issues, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol and smoking.Doctors also cautioned using fish oil supplements, instead of aspirin, would have similar disappointing results. NeNe Leakes will not return to the Real Housewives of Atlanta next season. The reality show star and actress made the announcement Thursday.“I have been on an extremely, extremely long, exhausting, tiring, emotional negotiation,” Leakes said in a video posted to YouTube announcing her decision.“It wasn’t an easy decision for me. NEW YORK CITY — A worker that helped put up this year's iconic Rockefeller Center Christmas tree found a special gift inside its branches.Wildlife rehabilitation experts said they received a call Monday about an owl that the employee rescued from the branches of the tree.The worker tucked the saw-whet owl away in a box, and it was transported safely to the Ravensbeard Wildlife Center, where he's being tended to and is said to be in good condition.Once he gets a clean bill of health, he'll be released back into the wild.In the meantime, he's getting plenty of fluids and mice and even has a new name that fits just right — Rockefeller. 648
NEW YORK (AP) — Microsoft said Friday it is permanently closing nearly all of its physical stores around the world.Like other retailers, the software and computing giant had to temporarily close all of its stores in late March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Microsoft has 83 stores, including 72 stores in the U.S., where it showcases and sells laptops and other hardware.The company says it will "reimagine" spaces that serve all customers, including operating Microsoft Experience Centers in London, NYC, Sydney, and Redmond campus locations.Friday’s announcement reflects what the company calls a “strategic change” for its retail business as sales increasingly shift online.Microsoft said all employees would have the opportunity to remain with the company. Retail workers will continue to serve customers from corporate facilities and remotely, providing sales, training and support.Microsoft says it will continue to invest in its digital storefronts on Microsoft.com, and stores in Xbox and Windows, reaching more than 1.2 billion people every month in 190 markets.“Our sales have grown online as our product portfolio has evolved to largely digital offerings, and our talented team has proven success serving customers beyond any physical location,” said Microsoft Corporate Vice President David Porter. “We are grateful to our Microsoft Store customers and we look forward to continuing to serve them online and with our retail sales team at Microsoft corporate locations.” 1488
