BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has urged government officials at all levels to strictly follow the laws and regulations in a bid to steer away from corruption and ensure the good of the public."In a peaceful time, corruption is the greatest danger for a ruling party, and the basic reason for corruption is that powers are not properly supervised and restricted," Wen said Friday during a national meeting on lawful administration.He called it a "major test" for the government to handle graft issues properly.Wen said the task of building a lawful government is the basic guarantee for promoting social fairness and justice, a key measure for anti-corruption and also an essential part for the reform of the country's political system."Currently our country's economic and social development has entered a new phase. BEIJING, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) - Members from friendship associations of China and Japan on Friday voiced their hope for people-to-people exchanges to help improve strained China-Japan relations after recent disputes.The proposal was launched at a conference held in the Great Hall of the People to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Japan-China Friendship Association (JCFA), a friendly group established on Oct. 1, 1950 with the view to promoting mutual understanding and cooperation between the two peoples and promote bilateral exchanges and trade."Friendly groups should take the 60th anniversary as a new starting point to deepen friendly exchanges between the two countries, especially between the youth, and contribute to the China-Japan strategic relationship of reciprocity," said President of the China-Japan Friendship Association (CJFA) Song Jian. He also spoke highly of the contribution made by the JCFA for the development of China-Japan relations.People-to-people exchanges have always played an important role in the history of bilateral relations. People of the two countries boast a 2000-year history of friendly exchanges. BEIJING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government announced Monday that it would provide an additional 200 million yuan (29.4 million U.S. dollars) of humanitarian aid to flood-hit Pakistan for disaster relief and reconstruction.The Chinese government had previously given 120 million yuan in humanitarian relief to its neighbor, the Ministry of Commerce said in a statement on its website.Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu confirmed the 200-million-yuan aid on Monday evening."Chinese government has decided to provide 200 million yuan of humanitarian aid to support Pakistan," she said in a statement.As Pakistan's "close neighbor and all-weather friend," China would continue to support Pakistan's disaster relief and reconstruction efforts, said Jiang.Pakistan is still facing severe challenges in relief and reconstruction, and needs additional aid from the international community, she said.
