LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A Panorama City girl is suing the Walt Disney Co. alleging she contracted Legionnaire's disease after a visit to Disneyland in 2017 to celebrate her mother's birthday. The girl's Los Angeles Superior Court negligence suit, filed Wednesday, seeks unspecified damages. The suit was brought on her behalf by her guardian. The suit does not state the girl's age and her lawyer, Joseph Finnerty, could not be immediately reached.A Disney representative could not be reached for comment.RELATED:Two additional Legionnaire's cases found in Disneyland guestsDisneyland shuts down cooling towers following Legionnaire's cases among guestsThe suit states that the girl and her family went to Disneyland on Oct. 13, 2017, where they observed her mother's birthday. Two weeks later, she developed a cough that worsened over time to include chills and a fever, the suit alleges."It seemed no matter what treatments were provided to Liana, she could not get rid of her sickness," the suit states. The girl was examined by an infectious-disease doctor at UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital and she was diagnosed with Legionnaire's disease, the suit states. The suit further states that in October 2017, Orange County health officials found several cases of other people who suffered Legionnaire's disease after visits to the Anaheim theme park. Disney linked the source to two cooling towers, but they were inadequately treated so as to eradicate the bacteria, the suit alleges. The girl's health continues to be negatively affected because of her infection, the suit states. 1580

LONDON (AP) — Archaeologists said Monday that they have discovered a major prehistoric monument under the earth near Stonehenge that could shed new light on the origins of the mystical stone circle in southwestern England.Experts from a group of British universities say the site consists of at least 20 huge shafts, more than 10 meters, or 32 feet, in diameter and 5 meters deep, forming a circle more than 2 kilometers— over a mile — in diameter.Researchers say the shafts appear to have been dug around 4,500 years ago.Scientists believe the shafts could mark the boundary of a sacred area or precinct around a circular monument known as the Durrington Walls henge, about 3 kilometers, or 2 miles, from Stonehenge. The Guardian obtained a photo of the new discovery. 776

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Georgia Engel, who played the charmingly innocent, small-voiced Georgette on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and amassed a string of other TV and stage credits, has died. She was 70.Engel died Friday in Princeton, New Jersey, said her friend and executor, John Quilty. The cause of death was unknown because she was a Christian Scientist and didn't see doctors, Quilty said Monday.Engel was best known for her role as Georgette on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," whose character was improbably destined to marry pompous anchorman Ted Baxter, played by Ted Knight.Engel also had recurring roles on "Everybody Loves Raymond" and "Hot in Cleveland." She was a five-time Emmy nominee, receiving two nods for the late Moore's show and three for "Everybody Loves Raymond."Engel's prolific career included guest appearances on a variety of shows, including "The Love Boat," ''Fantasy Island," ''Coach" and "Two and a Half Men." Her "Hot in Cleveland" role reunited her with Betty White, her co-star in "The Mary Tyler Moore Show."She appeared on Broadway in plays and musicals including "Hello, Dolly!", "The Boys from Syracuse" and, most recently, "The Drowsey Chaperone" in 2006-07.Engel's final credited television appearance came last year in the Netflix series "One Day at a Time." 1299

Looking for a holiday gift to take someone's mind off all the problems on Earth this year? With the pandemic spreading across the globe, it might be great if you could buy a place on another planet.Groupon claims you can do just that.Mel Winter was looking for deals on Groupon when she came upon the most bizarre deal she had ever seen."It was, 'Buy an acre of land from Mars,'" she said. "And I thought, 'How would that work?'"It was listed as just and even comes with an ownership deed.Winter was perplexed."At first I wondered, 'Would my acre appreciate if they land on Mars. Would they put a building on my land?'" she said. "And then I thought, 'Wait a minute, who owns Mars?'"Reminiscent of "name a star" offersIf this sounds vaguely family, it might be because you remember radio commercials that claimed you could buy a star and have that star named after you or a family member.Astronomer Dean Regas told us the International Astronomical Union is the only group that can name anything in outer space.Offers to name a star for a fee don't meet their requirements. Nor does buying a piece of Mars, which no one on Earth owns, meaning you cannot legally purchase a piece of it.But with a pandemic, protests and anger across the globe these days, Regas thinks Mars might be a great place to visit."Going to Mars is one of those things that could bring people together, and make us say this is something that humans have been striving to do, and we can do it," he said.As for whether this offer is legitimate, the fine print says it all, explaining that it is a novelty gift "for entertainment purposes only."So it's not a scam: You will get a certificate with your name on it.But you really don't own any land there, which means you can forget about flying to Mars to visit your new home.As always, don't waste your money.___________________________Don't Waste Your Money" is a registered trademark of Scripps Media, Inc. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Disgraced former film producer Harvey Weinstein -- who was already charged in Los Angeles with sex-related charges involving three women -- was charged Friday with sexually assaulting two other women in Beverly Hills.Los Angeles County prosecutors filed three new counts each of forcible rape and forcible oral copulation against Weinstein, who is behind bars in New York after being convicted there of sexually assaulting two women. The latest charges involve the alleged rape of a woman at a hotel in Beverly Hills between September 2004 and September 2005 and two alleged attacks on a woman in November 2009 and November 2010 at a hotel in Beverly Hills, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.Weinstein was charged Jan. 6 with one count each of forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, sexual penetration by use of force and sexual battery by restraint in connection with alleged crimes involving two women in 2013, and prosecutors subsequently filed a charge of sexual battery by restraint in May involving a third woman at a Beverly Hills hotel in May 2010.Weinstein, 68, could face up to 140 years to life in state prison if convicted as charged, according to the District Attorney's Office.Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey said in a written statement that she is "thankful to the first women who reported these crimes and whose courage have given strength to others to come forward.""The willingness of these latest victims to testify against a powerful man gives us the additional evidence we need to build a compelling criminal case," the county's top prosecutor said.In July, the District Attorney's Office announced that it had filed court papers to move the extradition process forward, and an extradition hearing is set Dec. 11 in Buffalo. It remains unclear exactly how soon Weinstein will be brought to Los Angeles County. The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles and Beverly Hills police departments and the District Attorney's Bureau of Investigation. 2050
