(KGTV) - A Chula Vista high school student was arrested on suspicion of posting a threatening message on social media.Sweetwater Union High School District said they notified police Wednesday that a threat against Olympian High School was posted on social media. A student notified the administrators after school of the social media posting, according to Chula Vista Police.The threat was thought to be credible at the time, police said, and alluded to a student "becoming a school shooter."Chula Vista Police officers identified the poster as a 16-year-old 10th-grade student and took her into custody at her home Wednesday night. (CNS) - An inmate was hospitalized with severe injuries after being found unresponsive in his cell at the South Bay Detention Facility in Chula Vista, authorities said Thursday.Around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, deputies assigned to South Bay Detention Facility, 500 Third Ave., found the man inside his cell "with obvious signs of trauma," San Diego County Sheriff's Lt. Thomas Seiver said.The man, whose age and name were not immediately available, was taken to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, Seiver said, adding that the victim was not expected to survive.The Sheriff's homicide unit responded and were investigating the circumstances leading up to the man's injuries. 716

(KGTV) - If a person suffers cardiac arrest inside a hospital, their chances of surviving are lower than you may think.According to the American Heart Association (AHA), the survival rate for adults is just 23%. The nonprofit attributes this low number to poor-quality CPR."So we need to do better in order to improve that number, our patients deserve better, our staff deserves better," said Sarah Saunders-Harbaugh, a clinical lead at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center.Saunders-Harbaugh is leading the hospital's effort to adopt the new AHA training method: RQI 2020, which stands for Resuscitation Quality Improvement. The simulation-based training provides verbal feedback in real-time while staff members do compressions and ventilations. Previously staff was only required to get re-certified every two years. With RQI 2020 staff will train every three months, but only for about 15 minutes each time."So 'we're constantly building muscle memory, and we have the opportunity to get better while we're using this equipment and then we have the opportunity to save more lives in the hospital," said Saunders-Harbaugh.A Texas hospital using this training method increased its survival rate by 21%, doubling the previous rate.Sharp Chula Vista is the first hospital in the county to implement RQI 2020, and the AHA hopes to have it in every hospital by 2025. 1389

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A gunman wearing a clown mask robbed a mini-market Saturday, police said.The robbery happened at 1:05 a.m. at an AM/PM convenience store in the 3100 block of Main Street. The suspect entered the store wearing a clown mask, pulled out a gun and demanded cash, beer and cigarettes.The gunman fled the store in an unknown direction.Medics were called to the scene after the clerk complained he was suffering from anxiety because of the robbery, police said. 482

(KGTV) -- Chula Vista native Sally Chand always knew what she wanted to do in life: follow in her family's tradition and join the military.Chand's father, her uncles and all of her brothers were all Marines. Her grandfather served in the Army. Chand eventually joined the Marines as well. Her son followed in her footsteps. After graduating from Castle Park High School, Chand served in the Marines for 22 years. Chand made history as the first female and Hispanic war interrogator translator in Chinese Mandarin.
