LEXINGTON, Ky. -- A teenager died Sunday after being shot at a mall in Lexington, Kentucky. The Fayette County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 17-year-old Kenneth Wayne Bottoms Jr., of Lexington. Bottoms was transported UK Medical Center at about 4 p.m where he was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m.Two other victims were also injured in the shooting, which police say happened in front of a Bath and Body Works at Fayette Mall. Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said at least one of the victims and a suspect knew each other. They may have had an interaction prior to the shooting.Officers are currently interviewing witnesses. No suspects are in custody at this point.Scripps station WLEX interviewed one Lexington shopper who was inside Bath and Body Works. She says she witnessed an argument outside of the shop that escalated when someone pulled out a gun."Held it up at face level... and he shot four shots off," said the shopper.The shopper, who wished to remain anonymous, says she was escorted with others toward the back of the store."We stayed in the bathroom until police got us out of the service door to Bath and Body Works, and they walked us around all of the blood to take us outside," said the shopper.Mark Thomas was inside his shop, Bourbon Creek, when he saw a group of people run by with sheer panic on their faces. His store was packed at the time, so the retired Lexington police detective quickly jumped into action."We had several customers that were wanting to leave, and we have a back door into the parking lot, so we were able to help evacuate people through the store. LAKESIDE (CNS) - A pileup on a rain-slick stretch of state Route 67 north of San Vicente Reservoir left one motorist dead Monday and another seriously injured.The chain-reaction series of crashes took place shortly before 7 a.m., when a 37-year-old Alpine woman lost control of her northbound Toyota Yaris near Foster Truck Trail in Lakeside, sending it veering sideways into the path of a southbound Chevrolet Silverado 3500 pickup, according to the California Highway Patrol.The resulting broadside collision fatally injured the driver of the subcompact car, CHP public-affairs Officer Travis Garrow said. Her name was withheld pending family notification.Following that crash, the truck, which was towing a trailer, careened onto the northbound side of the street, where a Chevrolet HHR station wagon hit it head-on.At that point, a Chevrolet 1500 pickup struck the back end of the HHR, and a Toyota Prius hit the right side of the Chevrolet 3500, Garrow said.Paramedics took the unidentified driver of the HHR to UCSD Medical Center in San Diego for treatment of major injuries. LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A police officer recruit in Indiana has been fired after his department received "credible" information the officer participated in a neo-Nazi internet chat forum in 2016.According to a report from Lafayette police, the department was tagged late Friday on its official Twitter page with information specifically identifying the officer.In a statement, Chief Patrick Flannelly said the department's internal affairs division began an immediate investigation and determined that the officer did participate in the online forum and that the information provided to the police department was accurate and credible.We have chosen not to identify the officer at this time, since he has not been charged with a crime.The chief said the officer's comments "were not in harmony with the spirit of cooperation and inclusion in the community that the Lafayette Police Department values."The officer was hired by the department in June 2020 and has been working solely in a training environment and has had no exposure to the public, the chief said."The Lafayette Police Department conducts very thorough and complete background investigations on all potential employees, which includes a complete review of personal social media accounts," Flannelly said. "While this information may not have been accessible through our investigative processes, we are appreciative that it was brought to our attention.
