(KGTV) - A nine hour standoff in Bonita has finally come to an end.Deputies have taken 37-year-old James Gilbert, who was wanted for a domestic violence incident, into custody.He has been booked into San Diego Central Jail on charges of making threats with a weapon, making terrorist threats and resisting arrest.Gilbert refused to come out of the home for hours.A San Diego Sheriff's Department SWAT team brought in two BearCats, made multiple flyovers with a helicopter and even called in a bomb squad.Two blocks of Allen School lane were blocked off all day due to the incident.Witnesses say a man believed to be the suspects brother tried running past the Sheriff's tape, ignoring deputies who tried to stop him.That man was handcuffed and taken into custody.Nearby Ella B. Allen Elementary School and Daly Academy were put on heightened security in light of the crisis. Children left the campuses safely after school let out. BLACKSTONE, Va. — The Jones family has had to adapt to survive and maintain their longstanding farm in Blackstone, Virginia, especially amid the pandemic.“This is a relationship that you’ve been in all your life and to try and figure out how to live without it is just, I mean you hear stories about people who sold the farm and didn’t get off their sofa for the next few years. It’s just soul crushing,” said TR Jones.The farm has been in Jones’ family for 270 years. That’s 270 years of his family’s blood, sweat and tears in the soil. It’s not just his job, it’s his family legacy“Nobody wants to be the one to lose the farm,” said Jones.Farming has never been an easy business and it certainly hasn’t the last few years. The Jones family has had to adapt. It started growing tobacco in the 1700s and then switched to dairy in the 1950s.That means milking over 200 cows at 3 a.m. and then again in the afternoon.“We milk them in five and five sections and in the entire parlor, we can actually milk 20 cows at a time,” said Brittany Jones.A little over a year ago, they decided to bet on themselves again and become a creamery, processing their own milk and making a little ice cream. That’s when Richlands Creamery was born.TR runs the farm with his wife Brittany and his dad, while his sister runs the creamery. But to build the creamery, they had to mortgage the family’s legacy for their future.“We basically put up that whole 270 years against that loan, saying we believe this is going to work,” said Jones.That was before the pandemic. The creamery has been treading water, but they’ve been hit hard just like everyone.“We were kind of getting revved up. We had just gotten ourselves into some Food Lions. All our retail stores, that wholesale purchase from us, were lined up to start buying ice cream, our restaurants were lined up to buy milk and cream, coffee shops, all those things. Then COVID started, which oddly enough was not in any of those feasibility studies,” said Jones.The Jones family is in a tough situation, a situation a lot of families in America are in. Everything they have in this world is threatened by the pandemic.“It’s been difficult because we lost those wholesale accounts to those coffee shops, restaurants, donut shops, ice cream shops that should have all been open this past summer, and they weren’t,” said Jones.But just like millions of Americans, they might be down, but don’t count the Jones family out.“To say that I can just move on to the next job, walk away, do something else, you don’t just walk away from that and say, didn't work out, on to the next job," said Jones.The Jones family is going to keep doing what they've been doing for almost 300 years and for the last year, keep working hard, taking care of their cows and making milk and ice cream for their community.They're going to keep fighting, like so many other American farmers.“You have this group of people who should be run through the mud, but when you sit down and talk to them, they’re so happy to talk to you, they’re so optimistic that tomorrow is going to bring better things and that the journey behind is essentially forged them for the road ahead. BUFFALO, N.Y. — Social workers could soon work alongside police officers in the Buffalo Police Department. Captain Jeff Rinaldo with the Buffalo Police Department said Monday that officers in Buffalo have been undergoing crisis intervention training for several years. He said officers are learning techniques to help handle situations with people in crisis, including mental health, substance abuse and homelessness. Buffalo police are working on an "initiative to embed licensed clinical social workers" who would work alongside police and help respond to crisis calls, according to paperwork submitted to the Buffalo Common Council. "The goal now is to create a specialized unit called the Behavioral Health Team within the police department," Rinaldo said. Endeavor Health Services is the company named in the proposed contract. A recently-awarded grant allowed the company to hire three trained clinicians to work with Buffalo police and handle crisis calls, Rinaldo said.The contract requires approval by the Common Council and is expected to be discussed at a meeting on Tuesday.The department's new plan was released as protesters across the country call for significant changes in policing. Some proposed plans involve defunding local police departments and, instead, sending social workers to deal with certain crisis calls. BUFFALO, N.Y. - At a house in Buffalo, you'll find a resource to help neighbors in need."I think Buffalo really has the chance and ability to want to really come together and put some positivity into the air right now you know?" said Jessie Reardon.Reardon is the woman behind the Buffalo Community Fridge. She's also a registered nurse at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.The fridge is for anyone who needs fresh produce, baby food, or even a pre-packaged meal. She got all the logistics together starting in July and put the fridge out last week.Reardon said the fridge was a donation from a friend. Since then, a few others have offered to find fridges for the effort."The ultimate goal is to for there to be refrigerators all over the city, in every neighborhood, all over. Spreading mutual aid giving food to people that need it," said Reardon.It's a resource critical to Buffalo's east side, which is considered a food desert."It's hard to get fresh fruit and the natural resources that our families need for their children, so they have the proper nutrition," said Pastor Dwayne Jones, with Mt. Aaron Missionary Baptist Church.Pastor Jones, an advocate for getting produce to food deserts, said there's only one supermarket on the east side.He's been working on a local, state, and federal level to get more supermarkets to that area."We need a supermarket down on this part of the east side," he said. "Everybody needs an apple, fresh milk, everybody needs fresh milk, fresh produce."Right now, Reardon wants other people to get encouraged to host a refrigerator themselves, and she is more than willing to help them get started."Anyone can do this, absolutely. It is anyone's project, it's just as much as your project as it is my project," she said.Any food items are accepted, except for raw meat or seafood.
