KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Missouri lawmakers advanced a bill Wednesday, that would allow concealed carry in churches, daycares and bars, among other locations.House Bill 1936 extends the list of places where gun owners can carry a concealed weapon — whether they have a permit or not."The definition of a criminal is someone who doesn't follow the law. We should be giving an individual the ability to protect themselves in any situation," said state Rep. Jered Taylor, a Republican from Nixa.This is the second year Taylor has introduced this bill.Currently, in Missouri, there are 17 locations where concealed carry is not allowed. Taylor's bill would narrow that list.If passed, the bill would allow concealed carry at amusement parks, casinos, child care facilities, churches, hospitals, stadiums, polling locations and local government buildings, including public universities and colleges."You cannot carry into those locations unless you have express permission from the property owner. What I am trying to do is leave it up to the property owner and let them decide what they want to allow and not allow," said Taylor.To opt out, private businesses would have to post signs prohibiting guns. Government buildings and public universities would not have that option."When I think about gun violence in KC and the legislation that is happening in Jefferson City, there is a huge disconnect," said AdHoc president Damon Daniel.Based on his experiences helping victims of crime, Daniel said he does not believe guns are the solution. In fact, hours before a committee passed HB 1936, he joined the Jackson County prosecutor in announcing a new service to help innocent bystanders of crimes."That's just not the solution. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Multiple people are dead and injured after a fellow gamer fired about a dozen rounds in the middle of a tournament in Florida. A gaming expert says there was limited security.Gayle Dickie, CEO of Gamer World News, said these kinds of tournaments happen all over the world and all the time."This is horrifying, really," she said.The shots rang out on the second and final day of the Madden 19 Tournament. Players entered Chicago Pizza on the first floor of Jacksonville Landing and Dickie said there was little security."It's unfortunate because it was a smaller event, I mean it wasn't a large event," Dickie said. "If you go to events like the Barclay's Center or Staple's, you're going to go through a metal detector."Inside, gamers entered their own world."It is probably the biggest quality of a gamer, to have that intense focus, so everybody was focused on gameplay," Dickie said. LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - A new study by a UC San Diego Assistant Professor says there is more plastic pollution in the deepest parts of the ocean than previously thought.Assistant Professor Anela Choy spent the last three years studying water samples off the Monterey Bay coast and found the highest concentration of micro-plastics at levels 200-600 meters below the surface."It’s a great problem," Choy says. "Tt’s pervasive and we’re just starting to understand the sources."Choy worked with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute to test water samples at varying depths. They also took readings of micro-plastics in the digestive systems of animals at different depths. She says the findings, published Thursday in Scientific Reports, show that ocean pollution is getting worse, no matter how far down you go."Our findings are really important to make us think about how we as humans impact an environment that feels so far away, the deep sea," says Choy.Micro-plastics come from everyday plastic items that end up in the ocean as garbage. Choy says the vast majority of the micro-plastic her team found is from single-use consumer products, like water bottles and plastic bags. She says that's a wake-up call that everyone needs to do more to reduce their use of these types of pollutants."We need to think more carefully about the products we buy, how they’re disposed of and how we can make a positive impact there," says Choy.She says all that micro-plastic is eaten by animals that live in the deep sea. It's also ingested by other animals that pass through the area. As those animals make their way through the food web, the plastic pollution accumulates, eventually ending up in the food on our plates.Choy hopes her study can help lead to more understanding of how we pollute the ocean and how we can fix the problem."We have to know how much is where before we can understand the best actions to take to clean it up," she says. 1954

(KGTV) - A flurry of reports about a foul odor in the La Jolla and Clairemont neighborhoods had San Diego Fire-Rescue crews busy Wednesday afternoon.Crews had at least six calls about possible gas leaks starting about 3:30 p.m. Three calls came from La Jolla, a fourth was just east of U.C. San Diego, a fifth call in University City, and a sixth came from Clairemont. Firefighters found no evidence of a gas leak. Initially, a spokesperson for the Fire Department said she believed the smell could be coming from a kelp bloom off La Jolla. JUNEAU, Alaska — Health officials in Alaska reported a health care worker had a severe allergic reaction to a COVID-19 vaccine within 10 minutes of receiving a shot.U.S. health authorities warned doctors to be on the lookout for rare allergic reactions when they rolled out the first vaccine, made by Pfizer and Germany’s BioNTech. Britain had reported a few similar allergic reactions a week earlier.The Juneau health worker began feeling flushed and short of breath on Tuesday, says Dr. Lindy Jones, the emergency room medical director at Bartlett Regional Hospital. She was treated with epinephrine and other medicines for what officials ultimately determined was anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction. She was kept overnight but has recovered.Unlike the British cases, the Alaska woman has no history of allergic reactions.In the U.S., vaccine recipients are supposed to hang around after the injection in case signs of an allergy appear and they need immediate treatment — exactly what happened when the health worker in Juneau.The CDC said it is aware of the incident. "Anaphylaxis is a rare event following vaccination and CDC is evaluating the case," the CDC said in a statement. "CDC and public health experts prepared for a side effect like this after reports of anaphylaxis were made in England.
