"For other entities that have chosen to act irresponsibly, entities in particular like the Awaken Church where we have been forced to have to share outbreak information because of their lack of cooperation and notifying members of their congregation about cases there, we continue to implore the public to recognize the very real danger of indoor religious services."Following the initial announcements of an outbreak, the church continued to hold indoor services. The church has received multiple cease-and-desist orders from the county.The church's website says it has moved Wednesday services in San Diego online through December. Sunday services on the church's website did not appear to be changed. The church also has locations in El Cajon and Carlsbad.Officials advised members of the church to wear face coverings and practice social distancing, and to avoid large gatherings.Generally, the county does not reveal the locations of community outbreaks, which are three or more COVID-19 cases from different households within two weeks at one location. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are searching for a suspect who they say tried to sexually assault a woman before stealing her car.According to police, the incident happened on the 1700 block of India Street at 4:33 a.m. Sunday.Police say the man walked into Cafe Italia while the victim was cleaning. The man then pushed the woman into a back room where he tried to sexually assault her while wielding a Bowie knife.The woman was able to fight the suspect off before he grabbed her car keys and drove out of the area in the tan, 1998 GMC Jimmy with California license plate 7VOY594.The man is described as a 25 to 30-year-old white male with a medium complexion who is five feet, five inches tall with a thin build, has dark, curly hair and is unshaven.The suspect was last seen wearing a white baseball cap with black stripes and stars resembling an American flag, a black short-sleeved t-shirt and tan shorts with dark, high-top tennis shoes.Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego Police’s Sex Crimes Unit at 619-531-2210. 1060

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police officers responded to a call from a Pacific Beach woman who recorded a confrontation with a solicitor claiming to be a charity worker.Sarah Jarzabek said she began recording the incident at around 3 p.m. Saturday when the man became increasingly aggressive toward her and her neighbor."Scared to death, honestly," Jarzabek told 10News, after reflecting on the incident. Jarzabek and her friend Emily Herton were watching a movie at her home when a stranger knocked on her door. "He said that he came from Ohio, from Cleveland," Herton told 10News. "He said he was trying to raise money for some missionary work for children."The women admit they thought it was a joke but as the man continued with his story claiming to be a missionary and spreading God's love, they felt something did not seem right."He had four different I.D.s behind his one I.D.," Jarzabek said. When she told him that they did not have cash to give, she said the man angrily left her front door and marched toward her neighbor's home. That is when she started to record him on her phone. "I was going to warn [the neighbor], and then the guy, he flips a switch," Jarzabek said. The 12-second video shows the man lunging toward Jarzabek trying to cover the camera then take multiple swings. "He chases me across the street, and screaming that he's going to kill me," Jarzabek said. Jarzabek said she and Herton barricaded themselves inside her home and called 911. San Diego Police told 10News that the man was gone by the time an officer responded. An SDPD spokesperson says that because the man did not actually touch Jarzabek, officers did not file an official report. After the incident, Jarzabek posted the video on Facebook and recruited the help of their local Guardian Angels. Within hours, many people replied on the post about their recent encounters with the same man.The people commenting on the post said he was some sort of charity worker describing himself as a Christian missionary, domestic abuse organization volunteer, or reformed criminal organization volunteer. Commenters also described the man becoming confrontational when they refused to give him money. Other commenters claim to have seen him scoping out neighborhoods in Ocean Beach and other San Diego communities. Jarzabek hopes her post raises awareness about dealing with questionable door-to-door solicitors."It takes a lot to make me feel endangered, and this guy literally shook me," said Jarzabek.San Diego Police said they would like to speak with the man in the video. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Residents of San Diego County are still disposing of more waste than the average Californian, according to a report by the research group Equinox Project at the Center for Sustainable Energy.According to the report, San Diego continues to dispose of more waste per capita than any of the other major urban counties throughout the state.The latest numbers, which came out in 2016, show that each San Diegan tossed out an average of 5.5 pounds of trash per day in 2016.Within San Diego County, residents in Del Mar disposed of the most trash at 16.5 pounds per capita.Residents of Imperial Beach, however, disposed of the least trash at 3.3 pounds per person followed by Chula Vista at 3.7 pounds per capita.The numbers show that three jurisdictions, Solana Beach, Lemon Grove and Coronado, decreased their waste disposal in 2016.Residents of within the city of San Diego disposed of 5.9 pounds of waste per person per day.The numbers below show how much trash per capita jurisdictions around the county disposed of: 1052

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego health officials are working with UCSD to notify people who may have been exposed to tuberculosis at the school’s La Jolla campus.According to the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency, the period of potential exposure was between January 25 through May 15. Those who are known to have been exposed were notified.“Testing is recommended for all those exposed to assure they are not infected, since they may not have symptoms,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. "For anyone infected, early diagnosis and prompt treatment can prevent disease.”Tuberculosis is transmitted from person to person through indoor air during prolonged contact. Most people who are exposed do not become infected.Symptoms of TB include persistent cough, fever, night sweats and unexpected weight loss.No-cost testing will be provided those identified starting May 30 at the campus Student Health Center on Library Walk.The number of annual cases of TB has decreased since the early 90s and has stabilized in recent years.
