SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Months after her husband passed away, a San Diego woman is still waiting for answers from the hospital that cared for him.Trish Zdravecky says her husband Peter stayed at Select Specialty Hospital in Hillcrest for over three months due to kidney and diabetes complications. During that time, more than ,000 worth of his jewelry went missing. "I would like someone to return the stuff. I don't need the money. I'm good. But it would be nice to have the items that were on my husband when he went into the hospital," said Trish.Among the items missing: an ,000 Rolex, gold necklace, gold bracelet, and his UC San Diego class ring. Trish says each time she calls the hospital, she's told there's no update and that a claim has been filed."My children deserve whatever their father had for them, and that is the most important thing."She says she's more concerned about the sentimental value of the items; the gold necklace cross was a gift from Peter's late mother. In a statement to 10News, a hospital representative said: 1052

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Monday, the California National Guard confirmed that its service members were recently sent to two San Diego nursing homes that needed help treating residents who were sick with COVID-19.“We supplemented their existing staff- their civilian staff- with our medical teams here in the California National Guard,” Lt. Col. Jonathan Shiroma told ABC10 and said that they were deployed at the direction of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).The National Guard reports that 20 troops were sent to Santee's Stanford Court nursing facility for a week in October and another 20 troops were sent to El Cajon's Villa Las Palmas for two weeks in November.Lt. Col. Shiroma said teams tested patients and staff and offered other supportive care. “Within the Guard we also have many medical professionals so each of the teams were led by either a physician assistant or a registered nurse or an LPN,” he added.“If you have an outbreak, you have staff that has to quarantine and so in order to provide care you want to get people into the building to help with the residents,” Deborah Pacyna with the California Association of Health Facilities told ABC10 News. The CDPH reports that since the start of the pandemic, 50 healthcare workers have tested positive at the El Cajon facility where 91 residents have gotten the virus and 45 healthcare workers have tested positive at the Santee facility where 58 residents have contracted COVID-19.The National Guard said that it doesn't have any current missions in San Diego but it's always ready. “If something comes in the next few weeks and there’s a need in any part of the state, the California National Guard will respond appropriately,” added Lt. Col. Shiroma.ABC10 News reached out to both nursing facilities for comment. We are waiting for a reply. 1829

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Newly-released census numbers show residents are fleeing California in sizable numbers.Angie Romero of was outside a U-Haul trailer, packed with rented wine barrels she will be using as decor for her 50th birthday party.  She'll likely be renting another U-Haul in the not-so-distant future."The cost of living puts you in another mindset.  I'm getting older and start wondering about my future," said Romero.Romero, who works in sales, plans on packing up and leaving the state within the next two years.  One reason: the rent for her apartment near San Diego."I've lived there three years, and every year it's gone up either or ," said Romero.Romero is hardly alone. According to the latest census numbers, in the year-span ending July 2017, adding up all the people moving into and out of California translates into a net loss of 138,000 people. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Now that a snowy storm is reaching San Diego County, many will head up to the mountains and East County to enjoy a taste of winter. That means trips up to Palomar Mountain, Mt. Laguna, Alpine, and Julian to frolic in the fresh, fluffy snow. But, that also means being prepared.Tire chains, four-wheel drive, extra supplies, and appropriate clothing are all a must. So is knowing exactly where you're allowed to stop off on land that's open to the public. Check 10News Pinpoint Weather conditionsAnd where ever you go, check road conditions ahead of time for possible closures or to see whether you'll need chains for tires. The county's Department of Public Works posts road updates online on Facebook and Twitter. It's also recommended not to simply stop off the road to enjoy snow or hop fences into possibly private property. Here's what you need to know about enjoying snow in our county's upper elevations when the time comes. What you'll need:Chains for tiresWater and snacks — enough for general hunger and in case you get stuckHeavy jacket, sweater, gloves, hat or beanie, snow/hiking boots, heavy socks, thermal clothing, extra clothing if desiredBlankets for car ride or stopping off outsideToys for the snow, like sledsChapstick or sunscreen — it's still San DiegoRELATED: San Diego County park rangers recommend these trails in 2019Where to go:Julian: When Julian gets snow, locals and tourists flock to the quiet mountain town — and largely residential, so be respectful. While crowds are expected, there are still spots to get in your snow fun. Head over to the town's community parks, such as William Heise Park, Jess Martin Park, or Julian Memorial Park.Mt. Laguna: For quick access to snow on Mt. Laguna, stop off at the Mt. Laguna Lodge. Numerous trails, including Big Laguna Trail and Sunset Trail, make the mountain perfect for checking out the snow off the roadside.Cuyamaca Rancho State Park: Enjoy the snow at Cuyamaca Rancho State Park at campsites like Paso Picacho or Green Valley, and they also include bathrooms, which families will likely find important. Or head to trailheads leading up to Stonewall Peak and Cuyamaca Peak or Lake Cuyamaca for a scenic view.Palomar Mountain State Park: Hiking trails and family campsites at Palomar are a great option for enjoying snowfall. When snow hits, it transforms the large pine, fir, and cedar trees into a winter wonderland. Visit Doane Valley Campground or Cedar Grove Group Campground as a stop off to visit the snow and the park's hiking trails also make great options.Local towns: If you choose to stop in towns such as Alpine, Pine Valley, or Santa Ysabel when snow falls, be considerate of local parking and property. Many residents may have fenced off property, so it's never recommended that visitors cross into private property or stop on the side of the road. 2867
