LOUIS — A St. Louis couple facing felony charges for waving guns at racial injustice protesters who marched near their home allege in a lawsuit that a news photographer trespassed to capture an image of the confrontation.The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Mark and Patricia McCloskey, lawyers in their 60s, filed the lawsuit Friday in St. Louis Circuit Court against United Press International photographer Bill Greenblatt and the wire service.At issue was a protest on June 28, when a few hundred marchers veered onto the private street near the McCloskeys’ .15 million home in St. Louis’ posh Central West End area.Mark McCloskey emerged with an AR-15 rifle and his wife displayed a semiautomatic handgun. The incident sparked international intention and was shared widely online.Newspaper photographers are allowed to take images from public streets, sidewalks or alleys. The McCloskeys have argued that protesters were trespassing because they live on a private street.The McCloskeys are also suing Redbubble, an online custom retail website. The couple says Redbubble users have been selling merchandise that includes the UPI photo without their consent.The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported last month that the UPI was considering sending a cease-and-desist to the McCloskeys after they used the image on a set of greeting cards.The McCloskeys, known for being litigious, delivered a virtual address at the 2020 Republican National Convention. 1468

LOUIS -- The U.S. Coast Guard has referred the investigation into last month’s deadly sinking of a Missouri tourist boat to federal prosecutors.The accident occurred July 19 at Table Rock Lake near Branson, Missouri. An amphibious duck boat sank amid strong winds, killing 16 passengers and a crew member. Fourteen people survived.Nine of those victims were from on Indianapolis family. Tia Coleman and her nephew, Donovan were the only two members of their family to survive. The legal team for the Coleman family says it “supports the U.S. Coast Guard Marine Board of Investigation referral to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Western Missouri for criminal investigation." Adding, "All those who continue to grieve  support holding fully accountable those responsible for making the deadly decisions that resulted in the catastrophe.”Several investigations are still underway from the National Transportation Safety Board, the Coast Guard and the Missouri Attorney General’s Office.The duck boat attraction owner, Ripley Entertainment, says it is cooperating with the investigations. 1115

St. Louis’ top prosecutor has charged a white husband and wife with felony unlawful use of a weapon for displaying guns during a racial injustice protest outside their mansion. Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner announced the charges Monday against Mark and Patricia McCloskey.Both are personal injury attorneys and in their 60s. The McCloskeys’ actions during the June 28 protest drew praise from some who said they were legally defending their .15 million home, but scorn from others who said they risked bloodshed.Several hundred protesters were marching to the mayor’s home, just a few blocks away.Mark McCloskey told CNN's Chris Cuomo that he feared for his life."I was a person scared for my life, protecting my wife, my home, my hearth, my livelihood, I was a victim of a mob that came through the gate. I didn’t care what color they were. I didn’t care what their motivation was. I was frightened. Staffers at Westview High School arrived for workWednesday morning to find the campus marred by offensive graffiti, includingswastikas.   San Diego police received a call about the vandalism at the TorreyHighlands secondary school shortly before 7 a.m., SDPD public-affairs OfficerBilly Hernandez said.   No suspects in the crime were immediately identified.   Tina Ziegler, principal of the Camino del Sur school, stated in amessage to parents that "campus security and custodians responded immediately,covering the (defaced) area to prevent students' exposure" to the graffiti.   "The actions of this person or group of people do not reflect thepride we take in our campus and the safe learning environment that WestviewHigh School and the Poway Unified School District strive to provide ourstudents," Ziegler said. Several companies have announced that they will temporarily suspend advertisements on Facebook, joining a movement that claims the social network has been "promoting hate, bigotry, racism, antisemitism and violence."Ben & Jerry's, Pataognia, The North Face, REI and Upwork have all announced that they are joining the #StopHateForProfit movement and suspending ad buys on Facebook platforms.#StopHateForProfit was launched earlier this month as a coalition between several civil rights groups, including the NAACP and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). The group's website accuses Facebook of a lack of transparency and failing to police hate speech on its platform.Among the changes #StopHateForProfit proposes to Facebook are increased content monitoring and increased transparency regarding the reporting of hate speech and ad sales.Several large companies have joined since the movement launched last week.On Saturday, CNN reported that The North Face was the first major company to join the movement."We're in.
