Allstate Insurance announced on Wednesday that they are planning to lay off 3,800 employees. In a press release, the company said the layoffs were part of a restructuring plan to lower costs.Allstate will make the cuts in the sales, claims, and support departments."Implementing this plan is difficult as we still deal with the impact of the pandemic but necessary to provide customers the best value," said Tom Wilson, Chair, President, and CEO of Allstate in the press release. "We have expanded transition support for impacted employees including prioritized internal hiring, extended medical coverage, expanded retraining support, and help in employment searches."According to the Wall Street Journal, the layoffs cover approximately 8% of Allstate's 46,000 employees.Roughly 1,000 of those laid off are linked to the pandemic-related refunds the insurance company is giving to customers, WSJ reported.Back in April, Wilson told CNBC that the pandemic has resulted in people driving less, and as a result, there are fewer accidents and claims.Allstate reduced policy-holders' bills back in March, like many insurers. 1127
After a brief flirtation with resurrection, Nickelodeon's "Double Dare" is back -- for real, this time. The game show favorite will return to the network this summer to give "a new generation of kids the chance to compete in the messiest and most physically challenging competition of their lives," Nickelodeon announced Wednesday. The decision to bring the series back comes about a year and a half after Nickelodeon paid tribute to the game show with a 30th Anniversary special."Double Dare" ran on Nickelodeon from 1986-93 and was revived for brief run in 2000.The original show was hosted by Marc Summers and co-hosted by Robin Marella. It is not yet known who will host the new iteration. Actor, writer and media producer Tyler Perry has offered to pay for the funeral for Rayshard Brooks, the man who was killed during an altercation with police in Atlanta on Friday.Attorney L. Chris Stewart, who is representing Brooks' family, said during a press conference on Monday that Perry had offered to pay for funeral arrangements."We want to acknowledge and thank Tyler Perry, who we spoke with, who will be taking care of the funeral for the family," Stewart said. "And it's support like that and it's people who are actually in this community, that love the community, that want healing and families like this to never have to go through something like this. It's a step forward and we want to thank him for such a generous move."Perry has been known to provide funeral services for others in the past. According to ABC News, he paid for the funeral services for two 15-month-old twin sisters who died after they left in a hot car in Georgia in 2016. In 2019, he reportedly paid for the funeral of a single mother of four children from Milwaukee.Earlier this month, boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr. paid for the funeral services for George Floyd, who died in Minneapolis police custody. Brooks was killed on Friday when police attempted to take him into custody for DUI. A struggle ensued, and Brooks stole an officer's stun gun and tried to flee the scene. Officer Garrett Rolfe shot Brooks in the back twice, and Brooks later died in surgery at a local hospital. Rolfe has since been fired from the Atlanta Police Department, and a medical examiner has ruled the death a homicide. 1595

ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) - An Alpine family woke up to panicked horses and a disturbing sight near their house: the remnants of burned sky lantern."Noticed the horses were panicking and running back and forth in their pens," said Lucy Olivier.Along Japatul Valley Road, Olivier and her husband woke up Saturday morning to terrified horses, bathed in sweat. One of them had injured his leg. The source of the horses' fear was just feet away: the burned-out remnants of a sky lantern. Banned in California, the small hot air balloons use candles to spark their flight. In the one Olivier discovered, there were birthday candles sitting on popsicle sticks, attached to straws and a large garbage bag. It landed near dry brush not far from the main house, an ominous sight in an area prone to wildfires."We were infuriated. Thank God it didn't start a fire, but it could have," said Olivier. In San Carlos, another anxious, but grateful family reported discovering a similar device and some burn marks on their roof on New Year's Day. It's the second time they have discovered a sky lantern on their property since Thanksgiving. Some 30 states have now banned sky lanterns, the suspected cause of wildfires from Utah to Washington to South Carolina. In Germany, police believe the device caused a fire at a zoo on New Year's Eve that killed more than 30 animals. It is the type of tragedy Olivier fears could be one lantern flight away, somewhere in San Diego County."You never know where it's going to land or what kind of damage it could cause," said Olivier.Olivier says her injured horse should be okay.In Germany, a mother and her two daughters are being investigated for possible charges of negligent arson in the zoo fire. 1728
