SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- National City’s Main Street is getting a major makeover and the city hopes the renovation will draw in crowds. One of the plans includes a new food hall, called Market on 8th. The project also highlights a growing trend in San Diego: public markets. Open throughout the week, the markets offer unique food from various vendors, all in one place. The market is located in Liberty Station, formerly part of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Months after pricey photography equipment disappeared during a car burglary in Pacific Beach, the victim made a stunning discovery at an estate sale right in his own neighborhood.Near Pacific Beach Drive and Ingraham Street in February, Danny Desanti came out and found all the doors of his hatchback open. Desanti, a professional photographer, had loaded up the night before for an early morning shoot in Santa Barbara."Didn't want to wake up my baby, so I loaded items the night before ... huge loss for me," said Desanti.The loss was dozens of items and more than ,000 worth of missing equipment, painful for a small business owner."Since then, I've been slowly buying the stuff back and renting the gear," said Desanti.Nine months later, Desanti saw a sign for an estate sale less than a block from his home. The sale was taking place at a house of an elderly man he had never met.He stopped by and after some browsing inside, something caught his eye. He looked around and saw a lighting clamp which looked very familiar. That's when he peered in for a closer look."My heart skipped a beat. Couldn't believe it. Absolutely shocked," said Desanti.Written on the clamp was his last name. The clamp was stolen during the car break-in. He says he continued to browse and found a handful of other items that were taken, including cables and reflectors."Got goosebumps. The hair on back of neck stood up," said Desanti.After he ran back home to get his police report, the company handling the estate sale let him have stuff back. Most of his stolen equipment has yet to be recovered. "Anybody would bought any lighting equipment at the estate sale, I would really appreciate it if you would get in touch with me," said Desanti.The questions linger. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Postal workers across San Diego will have an extra pickup this Saturday - they're working to end hunger in San Diego. The San Diego Food Bank and the National Association of Letter Carriers are asking San Diegans to participate in the annual Stamp Out Hunger event by setting out bags of nonperishable food items next to their mailboxes. The letter carriers will pick up the donations on their route and deliver them to the Food Bank's warehouse. “After the holiday season, food donations drop dramatically, and this one-day food drive helps us restock our shelves ahead of the summer months when we see increased in demand from children on summer vacation who stop receiving free school meals and face hunger at home,” said San Diego Food Bank President & CEO, Jim Floros.Last year, 244,489 pounds of food was collected from homes in San Diego County alone for the San Diego Food Bank and our North County Food Bank chapter.The food was distributed through the Food Bank’s network of 400 nonprofit partner agenciesMost needed items:  1096

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Neighbors woke up to find disturbing graffiti in their Hillcrest neighborhood.For Lauren Matley, it was hard to hold back tears, as she scraped away the red paint on her car window. This was just one of many vehicles that were painted on along 6th Avenue in Hillcrest. Someone also painted on the side of houses and on a garage.Doctor Barry Kaplan was walking his dog when he noticed the graffiti and he called police. "Several of my grandparents died in the Holocaust. So, for me to see this, this reminds me of Nazi Germany. It’s very offensive," Kaplan said.Though Matley doesn’t know if this was a random act or meant to be antisemitic, she says it hits too close to home being a member of the Jewish community."You wake up and this is what you look forward to? The black community would look forward to? The Jewish community would look forward to? The Muslim community looks forward to?" Matley said.Police say after the reports are written this case will be handed to an investigator. From there it may get handed over to the District Attorney’s Office to determine if this was a hate crime. 1124
