SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- While the San Diego Padres lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers Tuesday night in Game 1 of the National League Division Series, fans were thankful to be able to participate in the action alongside other San Diegans.While much of the Friar Faithful couldn’t make it to Texas to cheer on the Padres, the playoff excitement was still felt downtown, and for some, that was enough.“Unfortunately, you can’t watch it live, but to be surrounded with a group of people that are all watching it and all really excited, it’s pretty magical,” said Andrea Durkee, a resident of downtown and Padres fan. “I think we all needed something just happy and exciting and to look forward to, and this is absolutely the best thing we could have downtown.”Some fans watched the first game in the best-of-five series from Petco Park’s Tailgate Lot, which was transformed into a drive-in style viewing party.“I have season tickets actually, and we weren’t able to go this year, which is a huge bummer, but we’ve made the best out of it,” said Catie Vance. “We’re excited that we got to do this, at least.”Spectators on the other side were just as excited.“Grew up in LA, my grandfather had season tickets, I’ve probably seen 100 Dodger games at Dodger stadium I haven’t seen them win the world series yet, I’d love to see that, but I guess if someone has to go and the Padres do go, there’s worse things that can happen in life,” said Michael Martin, a Dodger’s fan.Facial coverings were required for all fans outside of their vehicles, and vehicles were spaced 20 feet apart to encourage social distancing. 1606

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - With summer break approaching, students and parents at Cathedral Catholic High School are pushing to be heard by the school's administration. This comes a week after school leaders decided the girls will not be allowed to wear skirts next year. Students, along with their parents, have been protesting since Monday. Parents tell 10News the push is much more than just the students being allowed to wear skirts. "We just want an opportunity to be heard," says parent Michelle Adams. "The girls would like to wear skirts. It's been a tradition here at the school for forever."It's been one week since the students and parents found out about the changes to next year's dress code. The girls will only be allowed to wear pants, capri pants, and Bermuda shorts. Parents say they wish the school would have included them before making the decision. "It's not so much about the skirts but about the process and the fact that this mandate was just dropped down on high without really consulting," says parent Matthew Boyd. "Our principals are both men," says 10th grade student Samantha Conant. "They don't understand. It's so unfair how they handled the whole thing."Since the memo went out last Friday, parents say the administration has been inaccessible. 10News reached out to the Catholic Diocese about the changes in the dress code for next year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - When flames engulfed a Northern California community last month, nurses and doctors found themselves in danger.Video of a medical team evacuating patients from a Kaiser Permanente hospital in Santa Rosa shows the desperate situation.Julayne Smithson was part of the team captured in that viral video.Just moments before, her own home burned down across the street from the hospital. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Windmill Farms Community Market in Del Cerro is asking for the public's help locating their stolen trailer.The family-owned grocery store has been serving San Diego since 2003 with a mission to provide healthy, organic foods at affordable prices. Surveillance video from the early morning hours on Sunday captures a white SUV with black rims circling the market. At around 4:30 a.m. the SUV hauls off the trailer. “Just unbelievable," said Michael Villegas, produce manager and buyer. “That trailer was a big part of our business; everything we had for our events was in that trailer."Villegas is also in charge of the store's community events, like bringing food to the Lake Murray 4th of July Fireworks and bringing fresh produce to schools. “Schools depend on us to do the events, if we have to start over it’s going to be tough," said Villegas.The trailer held all their tents, tarps, tables, and BBQ's.Villegas estimates the loss at around ,000. “I just hope we can get it back, you know, that would be awesome if we could get it back, if anybody seen anything give us a call," said Villegas. A spokesperson for San Diego Police says a report was filed and a detective should get the case in a few days. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A judge ruled Friday that Alvin Quarles, known as the “Bolder Than Most Rapist," will continue to stay in a state hospital until at least December. A status hearing was held Friday morning to get an update on the location of where he will live. The search is still ongoing to find a location, and the judge has given the court a 90-day extension to do that. In the meantime, the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office has issued an appeal to pump the brakes on Quarles’ release. The Deputy District Attorney, Jessica Coto, says they are attempting to make sure Quarles is not released into the public before he is ready. “The evidence showed that the release of Mr. Quarles was premature and that he still poses a danger to the community,” says Coto. There have been many evidentiary hearings during this process that have not been open to the public. Quarles' victims feel they should have a right to know what was said behind closed doors. The DA's office is hoping that will be reversed during the appeal process. “It makes me shaky for myself personally, and it makes me shaky for the young people of our community, who is his demographic, and who I think really will be at risk,” said survivor Mary Taylor. In the 1980s, Quarles sexually assaulted more than 10 women, often holding them at knifepoint, forcing their boyfriends or husbands to watch as be brutally attacked them. He was sentenced to 50 years behind bars but was moved to Colinga State Hospital years ago to get treatment for sexually violent predators. Quarles was initially set to be housed in Jacumba Hot Springs, but that idea was shut down. Another status hearing has been set for Dec. 6. 1694
