NEW YORK (AP) — Phil Griffin is stepping down after 12 years as MSNBC president, the first major post-election change in the news industry.NBC Universal News Group Chairman Cesar Conde says Rashida Jones will replace Griffin.Jones, who is currently the head of breaking news at NBC and recently directed the network's coverage of the 2020 election, has been with NBC News for the past seven years.She is the first Black executive to lead a cable news network, and Conde has said increasing diversity is one of his top goals."Rashida is the right person to lead MSNBC forward into a new era," said Conde in a press release. (AP) — Prosecutors added criminal charges involving five additional victims Wednesday in the case of a California surgeon and his girlfriend who were previously charged with drugging and sexually assaulting two women.The Orange County district attorney's office said the additional charges include kidnapping and rape by use of drugs.The new charges accuse Dr. Grant Robicheaux of sexually assaulting five additional women. His girlfriend, Cerissa Riley, is now charged in three additional assaults. Details were not immediately released.Robicheaux, 38, and Riley, 31, appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to all counts. A judge ordered their bail to be raised to million each, up from 0,000 each.Robicheaux once appeared in a reality TV show called "Online Dating Rituals of the American Male."When the pair was originally charged last month, prosecutors said they received leads to more than a dozen possible additional victims.Authorities said the two initial victims met Robicheaux and Riley at social events in Southern California, where they became intoxicated and ended up at Robicheaux's apartment.Robicheaux could now face a term of more than 82 years to life in prison if convicted. NEW BOSTON, Texas — Authorities are investigating after a baby was removed from the womb of a 21-year-old woman found dead in a small East Texas city. A Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman on Monday told The Associated Press that the body of Reagan Simmons Hancock was discovered Friday morning in a home in New Boston, a city of about 4,600 people. Hancock was reportedly 8 months pregnant with her second child.New Boston police have said a 27-year-old woman was later taken into custody by Oklahoma authorities. According to KLTV, the suspect arrived at a Oklahoma hospital saying her baby was not breathing. The baby did not survive. No further information was immediately available. 704
NEW YORK -- A suspended NYPD officer is now facing criminal charges after using an apparent chokehold during a now-viral arrest in Queens last Sunday.Officer David Afanador has been charged with attempted aggravated strangulation and strangulation in the second degree, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said Thursday.The 39-year-old cop, who has a history of complaints against him, was arrested and booked at his own Queens precinct just after 9 a.m. Thursday, according to police.If convicted, Afanador faces up to seven years in prison, the DA's office said.DA Katz acknowledged that body-camera footage shows the officers being cursed at and badgered before the incident.
