Michael Cohen, Donald Trump's former lawyer, pleaded with the American public on Friday to head to the polls and vote against the President and the Republican Party, predicting that if they did not, there would be two or six more years of "craziness.""Listen, here's my recommendation. Grab your family, grab your friends, grab your neighbors, and get to the poll, because if not, you are going to have another two or another six years of this craziness," Cohen told CNN in a brief interview outside of his Manhattan home. "So, make sure you vote. All right?"Cohen's remarks marked his first on-camera comments to the media since he pleaded guilty in August to eight criminal counts.Cohen's lawyer, Lanny Davis, said his client changed his party registration back to Democrat last week. Cohen was a Democrat for years, but changed his official registration to Republican after the 2016 election.Asked about that decision to change his party registration, Cohen told CNN: "I've been Democrat for pretty much my whole entire life. I switched because of a request of the RNC. Couldn't be the vice chair of the RNC and be a Democrat."CNN reported this week that Cohen is now willing to campaign for Democrats -- and against Trump -- in the midterms and the 2020 presidential election. Notably, he is prepared to call out anything he views as lies told by the President, a source with knowledge said."The #MidtermElections2018might be the most important vote in our lifetime," Cohen tweeted over the weekend, adding: "#GetOutAndVote#VoteNovember6th"The 52-year-old has in recent weeks met with investigators from special counsel Robert Mueller's office. On Wednesday, he met with investigators from the New York State Attorney General's office and the Southern District of New York.On Friday, Cohen walked away and ignored CNN's question about his meeting with investigators. In addition to tax evasion and making false statements to banks, Cohen also pleaded guilty in August to campaign finance violations. He said in a courthouse that "in coordination and at the direction of a candidate for federal office" -- Trump -- he kept information that could have harmed the President from becoming public during the 2016 election.Cohen orchestrated a payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election in an effort to silence her about her alleged affair with Trump. He was also involved in a similar hush agreement related to Karen McDougal, a former Playboy model who also alleges to have had an affair with Trump, who has denied sexual relationships with both of them. 2585

MENLO PARK, Calif. – Facebook is offering to pay some of its users to deactivate their accounts in the weeks leading up to the 2020 election. It’s part of a new research partnership Facebook is launching to better understand the impact its website and Instagram have on key political attitudes and behaviors during U.S. elections.“We need to better understand whether social media makes us more polarized as a society, or if it largely reflects the divisions that already exist; if it helps people to become better informed about politics, or less; or if it affects people’s attitudes towards government and democracy, including whether and how they vote,” said Facebook when it announced the study Thursday.Facebook expects between 200,000 and 400,000 adults will choose to participate in the study. In a press release, the company said participating “could include taking part in surveys or agreeing to see a different product experience.”The company also said, “other participants may be asked to stop using Facebook or Instagram for a period of time. A subset of participants may be asked to install an app on their devices – with their permission – that will log other digital media that they consume.”The press release did not mention compensating participants, but screenshots tweeted out by Washington Post reporter Elizabeth Dwoskin show Instagram users being asked how much they’d need to be paid in exchange for deactivating their account in late September, for either one week or six weeks.Facebook spokesperson Liz Bourgeois responded to Dwoskin’s tweet, saying that anyone who chooses to opt in, whether it’s completing surveys or deactivating Facebook or Instagram for a period of time, will be compensated.“This is fairly standard for this type of academic research,” Bourgeois wrote.Anyone who chooses to opt in – whether it’s completing surveys or deactivating FB or IG for a period of time – will be compensated. This is fairly standard for this type of academic research. More here: https://t.co/uw4B8XhsYY— Liz Bourgeois (@Liz_Shepherd) September 3, 2020 While participants and Facebook employees will be compensated, the company says it will not be paying its external research partners, a team of independent academics, two of which serve as chairs of Social Science One committees. They’re said to be experts in the fields of elections, democracy and social media.Facebook says researchers will select and invite representative, scientific samples of people in the U.S. to participate in the study.“Some potential participants will see a notice in Facebook or Instagram inviting them to take part in the study,” wrote Facebook. “Study samples will be designed to ensure that participants mirror the diversity of the US adult population, as well as users of Facebook and Instagram.”Facebook said last week that the study will start soon and end in December, but it doesn’t expect to publish any findings until mid-2021 at the earliest and it doesn't expect the research to affect the outcome of the election. 3038

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Rapper Megan Thee Stallion says she suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital over the weekend. The Houston artist behind the hits “Hot Girl Summer” and “Savage” made the announcement in an Instagram statement Wednesday afternoon. The rapper said the narrative that’s being reported about the events surrounding the shooting are inaccurate and she wanted to set the record straight."On Sunday morning, I suffered gunshot wounds, as a result of a crime that was committed against me and done with the intention to physically harm me,” she wrote. “I was never arrested, the police officers drove me to the hospital where I underwent surgery to remove the bullets."She says she’s “incredibly grateful to be alive” and expects to make a full recovery.“But it was important for me to clarify the details about this traumatic night," Megan continued in her statement. "I'm currently focused on my recovery, so I can return back to my life and back to making music as soon as possible."Her statement comes after TMZ reported that Megan had been involved in an incident which led to the arrest of fellow rapper Tory Lanez on a weapons charge. TMZ says it happened in the Hollywood Hills early Sunday morning. In her Instagram caption, Megan added, "This whole experience was an eye opener and a blessing in disguise. I hate that it took this experience for me to learn how to protect my energy."It’s unclear at this time what led to the shooting or where the rapper was shot. 1507

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A man was arrested Sunday after allegedly saying on Facebook live that he would shoot Louisville police officers for ,000.The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Kentucky said Sunday that 29-year-old Cortez Lamont Edwards was in possession of an AR variant pistol including a non-extendible support brace and extended magazine when he went live last Wednesday. In the video, Edwards says he’s requesting to be paid ,000 to shoot the officer on scene for a disturbance in the street in front of his home, according to a criminal complaint.Authorities say an investigation revealed that the Louisville man is a convicted felon, having been convicted of complicity to trafficking in a controlled substance, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.Edwards was taken into custody Sunday after a team of law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant at his home. He’s being charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. If convicted at trial, the maximum sentence for unlawfully possessing a firearm is 10 years in prison, a 0,000 fine, and three years of supervised release.Louisville has become a site of unrest this year, with people calling for justice in the Breonna Taylor case. The 26-year-old EMT was fatally shot by Louisville police in her apartment in March."Louisville needs healing and safety for its citizens, not armed felons seeking bids to shoot police," said U.S. Attorney Russell Coleman. "Federal law enforcement here will continue to respond as one to swiftly mitigate threats to our city." 1576

LOVELAND, Ohio -- Someone drove through the wall of a sports bar near Cincinnati early Sunday after a fight, according to another patron. The vehicle, a Kia Optima, crashed through a fence, across a patio and into the side of Zappz Sports Bar and Grille in Loveland, Ohio at about 2:30 a.m.Blake Freeman, who was at the bar, said the driver smashed into the building on purpose after being kicked out. Freeman said he arrived moments after that."I was standing there 30 minutes prior to this happening. I had left to go to a friend's house real quick, and as I'm coming back, pulling back in, he was going through the building and that's just kind of when I went in and started helping everybody," Freeman said. 723
