The City of Glendale plans to vote on adding a permanent American flag to the top of Thunderbird Mountain. The Glendale Chamber Military and Veterans Affairs Committee sent a proposal to the city council asking to erect a flag. The committee will also manage it. Thunderbird Mountain falls within a conservation park, which means it is to be left as is. The picnic tables, garbage cans, and signage are all a part of the city's master plan, which is why they are allowed in the park. "We want people to enjoy it but not to disturb the wildlife the plants and not erect any structures in the park either, at least if they're not part of the master plan," said Vice-Mayor Lauren Tolmachoff. She is one of the council members voting to hold off on the change. "Not everybody on the council felt there was a conservation national park because there are signs and roads, and I disagree with that," she said. The Florida Panthers have hired Brett Peterson as an assistant general manager, making him the first Black executive to hold that position in the NHL. "I'm very excited for this opportunity with the Panthers and with Bill's growing front office team," said Peterson in a press release. "It's a special day for myself and my family and I can't wait to get to work."Peterson's hiring comes days after the nearby Miami Marlins hired Kim Ng as the first female GM in Major League Baseball. The NHL has been working to increase minority participation in front offices and on coaching staffs. The Environmental Protection Agency will allow states to set their own emission standards for coal-fueled power plants, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday. Critics say the decision will result in much more carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere.The Journal reported that acting EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler signed a proposal that calls for states to regulate emissions from power plants, undoing a move from President Barack Obama that made those emissions regulated by the federal government for the first time."The entire Obama administration plan was centered around doing away with coal," Wheeler told the Journal in an interview. 662
