SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Authorities are investigating after an inmate died at the George Bailey Detention Facility. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were notified that an inmate identified as 63-year-old Dennis Lee Curry needed medical help inside his cell on May 11. Deputies say when they arrived, Curry complained of pain to his head and chest, but had no visible injuries. Curry was taken to a local hospital where his condition worsened and he was placed on life support before he died on the morning of May 13. Following an autopsy, it was discovered that Curry died of natural causes. The Sheriff’s Department’s homicide unit was called in to investigate, as they do with all in-custody deaths. Curry was in custody for outstanding warrants related to prior DUI and drug-related charges, according to the department. 860

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- City leaders are considering closing some streets in the Gaslamp Quarter to help with social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic.Pictures on social media showed crowds of people congregating outside bars, many not wearing face coverings, shortly after they reopened Friday.According to a spokesman for San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, the city's department of special events is reviewing a proposal to shut down parts of Fifth Avenue between G and K streets to make it easier to physically distance by providing more room in parts of the public right of way for outdoor dining.The Gaslamp Quarter Association submitted the application, which would close close the streets Thursday, Fridays, and Saturdays. It could be approved and go into effect as soon as this Thursday.Robert Romero owns the Tivoli Bar and Grill. The longtime family-run restaurant on Sixth Avenue reopened Monday. From the now dried-out grass, to the fluorescent lights up above, inside the stadium in Mission Valley sits the eerie, now empty Chargers locker room. And how about the spiral ramp leading from the Plaza level to the Loge level that every kid raced up and down, a time or two. SDCCU Stadium, Qualcomm Stadium, the Murph, whatever you want to call it, the 53-year-old structure is soon to be a San Diego memory."We will start in the next month or so, disposing of the interior the things. When we knock it down, things need to be taken out, or given a new place," said Gina Jacobs, Associate Vice President of Mission Valley Development. "We're going to try and salvage some of the seats, so that we can make those available for sale."The stadium was home to many great San Diego memories.
