(AP) — Oregon State Police will return to Portland to help local authorities after the fatal shooting of a man following clashes between President Donald Trump supporters and counter-protesters that led to an argument between the president and the city’s mayor over who was to blame for the violence. On Saturday evening a caravan of about 600 vehicles packed with Trump supporters drove through the liberal city and was met with counterprotesters. Skirmishes broke out and, about 15 minutes after the caravan left the city, a supporter of the right-wing group Patriot Prayer was fatally shot. The circumstances of the shooting remain unclear. Video from the city shows sporadic fighting between the groups, with Trump supporters firing paintball pellets at opponents and using bear spray as counterprotesters threw things at the Trump caravan.The man killed was a member of Patriot Prayer, a right-wing group whose members have frequently clashed with protesters in Portland in the past, its founder, Joey Gibson, said Sunday. He identified the victim as Aaron “Jay” Danielson and called him a “good friend,” but provided no details. Danielson apparently also went by the name Jay Bishop, according to Patriot Prayer’s Facebook page.The Washington state-based group doesn't have a significant national footprint but is well known in the Pacific Northwest. (KGTV) - Family and friends are preparing to say goodbye to a Poway teen, killed while driving home from college for Christmas break."She always brings a positive vibe wherever she goes. Her smile can really brighten up the room," said friend Brandon Kim.For the friends of Kim Huynh, smiles for them are hard to muster."To me it was just shock," said Kim.Last Thursday night, the 18-year-old Huynh was driving back home to Poway with her older sister after finishing her first quarter at UC Riverside, when the car spun out on a Murietta highway, slamming into a tree and killing her. Her sister suffered minor injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation."She was one of my closest friends," said Kim. Kim met Huynh in grade school."Super smart. Ten times smarter than me," said Kim.Kim said his friend also had a joyful side and loved having fun. Huynh danced for one of Rancho Bernardo High's dance teams. After graduating, she enrolled at UC Riverside on scholarship. The pre-med student also hoped to help her immigrant parents."She said she wanted to become a doctor to give back to them for taking such good care of her," said Kim.After her death, friends gathered this weekend to remember a promising life cut short."Everybody broke down ... I want to grow up with everyone. The fact I have to leave someone behind breaks my heart," said Kim.The funeral is planned for Thursday. PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -- A man who bit a teen girl at a Green Day concert in Portland pleaded no contest to harassment and was sentenced to one month in jail.Joel Brian Dauncey, 34, of Vancouver, British Columbia, entered his no contest plea in court Monday. An additional charge of third-degree sex abuse was dismissed as part of his plea agreement.Dauncey was arrested last month following the Green Day concert at the Moda Center.Court documents state the 14-year-old victim was with her mother, who was on her left, with Dauncey on her right.The girl said she was dancing when Dauncey leaned over and bit her on her right breast, according to a probable cause affidavit.The affidavit states an employee working at the concert witnessed the bite and said Dauncey had been cut off from buying alcohol due to his behavior.Along with one month in jail, Dauncey was sentenced to 11 months probation and ordered to have no future contact with the victim.The-CNN-Wire 970

Manchin said he is concerned that the postal service will be less accessible to his constituents.“As a public service, USPS is legally required to deliver mail, to all postal addresses in all regions, at a flat rate, no matter how far it may have to travel,” Manchin said in a letter to DeJoy. “The Service’s affordability and continued accessibility are essential for rural communities, especially those with high rates of poverty. In many areas where reliable broadband is not an option, the Postal Service is their only link to medicine, social security checks, and family members.In recent years, the USPS has seen a decrease in mail volume, going from 170.9 billion pieces of mail in 2010 to 142.6 billion in 2019. Meanwhile, USPS continues to operate routes six days a week.To combat the decrease in revenue, DeJoy wants to implement reforms and cut overtime from the budget.
