SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Prosecutors say streetlight camera video revealed the killer of an East Village business owner. A bevy of surveillance and streetlight video was released during the preliminary hearing for Kevin Cartwright and Lorena Espinoza, accused of killing of Tony Radda, 49.October 2018. Just before 3 p.m., store surveillance video shows a woman wearing a purple wig and sunglasses enter the store.Video shows Radda and the woman going towards the back, possibly to show her some merchandise. Right away, a man in a mask is seen trailing behind them, lurking. When Radda and the woman return, the man in the mask attacks Radda, dragging him out of camera range. Prosecutors believe that is when Radda was shot several times and killed.Soon after, the masked man is caught prying open a cash register. Prosecutors say while the woman took off in an SUV; the man walked away.According to prosecutors, that walk was captured by a string of streetlight cameras. In one of the videos - about 12 blocks away from the store - the man in the mask sheds it, revealing a face, police eventually identified as Cartwright. On Friday, the judge is expected to decide whether the two will go to trial. 1206

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One person was killed and police were searching for a suspect after a shooting in the Chollas Creek neighborhood.San Diego Police said one victim was transported to a nearby hospital after the shooting at about 2:30 p.m. Friday in the 5200 block of University Avenue.Police later confirmed the victim died of their injuries.Police were still searching for a gunman following the shooting. SDPD's homicide unit has taken over the investigation.Delays for drivers are expected in the area on University Ave., police added.No further information was immediately available. 596

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - People with gardens and groves in their back yard are helping others through the coronavirus pandemic, by donating their extra fruits and veggies."Especially in these times where we're just looking for good stories and good things to do, that was in my heart to encourage other people," says Terri Healy. She donated six full boxes worth of fruit from her backyard trees.Healy was inspired by a message from her Pastor at the Rock Church. So she took the fruit to a nearby nursery, and posted a sign that said "Free Organic Fruit." It was gone within a couple of days."The employees there said that the customers were just so excited to receive it," says Healy. "We're thrilled that it was used in the community."Community is a big deal to KK Kvernland. She helps run the Second Chance Youth Garden. It gives at-risk teens hands-on training in a garden, as well as mentoring. Kvernland had to cancel the classes during the pandemic and was looking for something to do with all the vegetables they grew."We usually run a delivery box service, sell at fruit stands, to restaurants, and the kids all take home food each week," she explains. "Now, we're putting our heads together, and we really want to get food to the most vulnerable people in our community, including our participants and their families." They're also asking for help, as they're missing out on the revenue they get from sales. "We're asking people to come and donate to our website so that we're able to cover the costs to provide people food to the people that needed the most," says Kvernland.For both Healy and Kvernland, and countless other people who have been giving away the fruits and veggies they grow at home, this is all about coming together during a crisis."It's just a good reminder that it's important to have community resilience," says Kvernland. "And it's important to make sure that services are accessible for all types of people.""We're trying to encourage others," says Healy. "What can you do with your farm or your ranch? Is there anything on your farms that you can use to help spread the food supply to people in your community? SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police arrested a suspect following an early-morning shooting in the Gaslamp Quarter that left one man dead. The shooting was reported at around 2 a.m. Monday on Market Street at 5th Avenue, according to San Diego police.According to several witnesses, the shooting erupted following an argument outside of a venue between two groups of people. Witnesses told 10News the victim swung a folding sign at a group of men when one person in the group opened fire.The 33-year-old victim suffered at least one gunshot wound, and police said he was pronounced dead at the scene.RELATED: Friends remember father killed in Gaslamp shooting After the gunfire, witnesses said two men got into a cab and left the scene. However, police stopped the cab a short distance away and detained the men for questioning.Jonathan Hernandez, 23, was arrested after the shooting and booked into jail for murder. Shaun Spearman, a friend of the victim, told 10News that his friend “just had a heart of gold, always took care of people.”Spearman continued, “He’s the one that deescalates things … I’ve seen him, multiple times, have to bring things down. He’s a calming guy, he knows how to talk to people … It doesn't make sense yet. I'm just trying to make sense of it.”The victim has not been officially identified.Market Street, between 4th and 5th avenues, was closed for several hours due to the investigation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- New census data shows that less than a third of San Diegans have their mortgages paid off.Of the more than 228,000 houses located in the city, 60,402 housing units have no mortgage.The numbers were released following a five-year study by the Census Bureau. The study was conducted between 2012 and 2016.Of the cities and neighborhoods with more than 1,000 homes, Harbison Canyon took the top spot for most homes without a mortgage at 41 percent followed by Bostonia also at 41 percent and Coronado at 39 percent. As far as cities and neighborhoods with the least amount of homes without mortgages, San Diego County Estates takes first place at 13 percent followed by Poway at 20 percent and Rancho San Diego at 20 percent. For those trying to buy a home, the county does offer programs to help with down payments and closing costs.
