GOLDEN, Colo. — A man who escaped from a Colorado Department of Corrections prison in Golden Tuesday morning has been captured. According to police, Sean Garcia, 27, was located and arrested in Denver. The escapee was taken into custody after authorities set a perimeter in the area. Garcia had escaped from the state prison facility by climbing a perimeter fence.Garcia is serving time for weapons and theft charges out of Rio Blanco County. His Parole eligibility date was in January, and his mandatory release date was Sep. 2 of this year, according to the DOC. Details as to how Garcia managed to escape the secure facility by climbing a fence have not been released. An investigation is ongoing.  744

GREAT FALLS — The dim glow of a scented candle illuminating holiday cards is a sight that can be found in many homes during the holidays - but can quickly lead to one much less festive."We see a couple candle fires every year,” said Great Falls Fire Marshal Mike McIntosh. Candles are one of several holiday traditions Great Falls Fire Rescue reminds people to think about."Make sure that if you're using a candle you don't put it near anything that could ignite and (catch) on fire. The other thing we would also recommend is, any time that you leave the room or that you go to bed at night that you make sure that you extinguish that candle,” McIntosh said.Next up, holiday lights. "Make sure that your Christmas lights are not damaged, frayed or look like they've been cut in any way. If they are, make sure you throw those away and go out and buy some new ones,” McIntosh said. "Also, regarding Christmas lights, we want people to know that there are some lights that are designed for indoor use and outdoor use and some that are only designed for either or. So make sure you know which type of use of lights that you have."GFFR also recommends using a surge protector and plugging it directly into a wall. Grocery workers continue to be on the front lines during the pandemic.United Way and Kendall-Jackson are now teaming up to get grocery workers more help through a national relief fund they've created.“What we have seen across the county in other disasters natural disasters is that initially there's this outpouring of support and people want to donate, but then it really starts to wane and lag just as the needs are starting to get even bigger,” said Suzanne McCormick, U.S. President of United Way Worldwide.The Grocery Worker's Relief Fund will be available to anyone currently employed by a grocery store.The fund will be giving out 0 per person on a gift card. Anyone who applies will also be connected with the 211 social services helplines in their area to see if they have other needs.United Way says housing insecurity is one of the top issues people are calling 211 about right now.Mental health has also become a much bigger concern among the people who are calling.“While people might call for financial assistance our call specialists who are trained as they start to enter into dialogue, they do discover that there's more there that the person might have anxiety,” said McCormick. “They might be in a domestic violence situation or have very serious mental health issues.”Grocery workers can start applying for the relief fund on October 1 on the United Way website.
