(KGTV) - A peace officer claims he was profiled by Walmart employees Wednesday.Johnny Aguirre says he and his wife went to the Walmart in La Mesa and he was carrying a backpack that he usually carries with him. There are items he carries in his backpack that are related to his job as a peace officer. “We walked in, and I got stopped by two greeters, they told me to put the backpack away int he lockers,” he said.Aguirre says the lockers were empty, so it was standard for all customers. He also says he noticed other people were walking around the store with backpacks.He believes employees singled him out because of the way he looked.“I got that feeling that I was profiled and racially discriminated because of the way I was dressed maybe,” he said. He says he was working all day and he was a little dirty.Walmart sent the following statement to 10News: “We do not tolerate discrimination of any kind. As a company, we’ve taken several steps to help mitigate the issue of crime and the locker system implemented in our Las Mesa store is just one example of our proactive approach. Voters in San Diego County can do so at sdvote.com. Californians in other counties should visit vote.ca.gov.The deadline to register is October 19.The second thing you want to do is make a plan for how you will vote, either by mail or in-person.“Our recommendation, particularly with the pandemic, is to vote by mail in this upcoming election,” said San Diego County Registrar of Voters Michael Vu.Because of the pandemic, election officials are sending mail-in ballots to every active, registered voter in California for the first time in state history. As long as you’re registered by October 19, you’ll get one, Vu said.When you’re making your selections, “clearly mark that ballot, similar to when you’re going to a polling place with an ink pen. Black or blue is preferred,” Vu said.Once filled out, seal the ballot in the pre-paid return envelope and sign the back. Seriously. Don’t forget.Missing or mismatched signatures, meaning the signature on the ballot doesn’t match the one on file, are the second most common reason mail ballots get disqualified.The number one reason is that they’re sent back too late. But send it back with plenty of time just to make sure that it's postmarked on or before Election Day in order to count,” said California Secretary of State Alex Padilla.You can return the ballot to the post office or a mail-ballot drop-off location. There are 126 drop-off locations in San Diego County. You can also drop it off at a polling place.If mail ballots aren’t your thing, you can still vote in-person at the polls. Every polling location will open up to three days early, on October 31.Voters can also cast an in-person ballot at the San Diego County Registrar of Voters office as of October 5. No less than 2,000 square feet in the majority of these locations to allow for physical distancing,” Vu said.Vu said by shrinking the number of polling locations, they’re able to have the polls open for four days rather than one, which he hopes will help spread out voters and mitigate the risk of the virus.For the first time statewide, you can sign up to track your ballot through a new tool called Where’s My Ballot? The system will send text alerts and emails when your ballot is mailed, when election officials receive it, when it’s been counted, and if there are any issues with your ballot that can be corrected, such as a missing signature.“Do a little bit of homework, know the process. Decide how you're going to vote and do it early,” Padilla said.A record 72 percent of California ballots were cast by mail in the March primary, so election officials are used to the process. LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A young girl born without an arm now has a prosthetic one after teachers at Sunshine Elementary in Lehigh Acres made an arm just for her.It's a dream come true for student Dulce Jaimes.  "I didn't know what was happening until Mr. Demeri showed up," Dulce said. The third grader was born without half an arm, but recently received a prosthetic one after her teacher decided to use a 3-D printer to make one. "She was perfect before the arm," teacher Rachel Canino said.  "Now that she has the arm, she's a celebrity."A celebrity who's an extra helping hand for her family.  "I can help my mom out with my brother," Dulce said. "When I get two yogurts because they're small, I let the other one carry it and I hold the other one." Eric Demeri, who made Dulce's arm, started the 3-D printing lab back in the fall. He said originally the lab was for printing things like pencil holders. But after getting word of Dulce's situation he was up for the challenge of something bigger.Demeri said he had never printed something that took more than six hours. But Dulce's arm took nearly 40 hours, with some failed attempts. Eventually, he got it right.  "When I actually got it to work and I had my daughter testing it out, I'm like, ‘This is going to be, this is going to be pretty big for Dulce,’" he said.Now she's lifting water bottles, pencils and pretty much anything she can get her hands on.She said she was thankful."It was really nice of you," she said.  "I was excited, and thank you Mr. Demeri."   1638

(KGTV) -- Former Vice President Joe Biden visited San Diego Friday night to discuss cancer research at the Salk Institute. Biden is pushing for national efforts to improve prevention and treatment of the disease. His son, beau died from brain cancer in 2015. RELATED: Meghan McCain and Joe Biden share emotional moment on 'The View' The Salk Institute is also launching its own initiative to study cancer. One of their goals is to eradicate childhood illnesses and premature birth for the March of Dimes. Join 10News this weekend and next weekend as we March for Babies. The North County March for Babies takes place Sunday, April 22 at Mance Buchanon park in Oceanside. Legislation requiring shoppers to wear masks in New Jersey stores is one step closer to becoming law.A bill proposed by state Democratic lawmakers got the stamp of approval from a New Jersey Assembly committee Thursday.If passed, customers could be fined between and 0 for being in a business without a mask that covers the nose and mouth. The bill would apply to any store that has posted signage saying masks are required.Assembly Democrats who backed the bill called the legislation "a matter of life and death" and said there needs to be a penalty for those who don't do their part to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.Republican lawmakers called the bill ludicrous and an attack on residents' civil liberties.Some suggested a better policy would be for businesses to refuse to serve customers who choose not to wear masks.Hoboken, New Jersey tried to pass a similar mask ordinance in August, attempting to fine people 0 for not wearing a mask in any place where social distancing was not possible. It ultimately did not pass.In New York City, MTA riders can now be fined for refusing to wear a mask on buses, subways and trains.As of midnight in Connecticut, anyone can now be fined 0 for violating mask and social distancing orders. Gov.
