SAN YSIDRO, Calif., (KGTV) -- San Diego community leaders responded to comments made by the President, where he threatened to close down the US-Mexico border indefinitely if Mexico does not handle the wave of asylum seekers coming into the United States. Paola Avila with the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce is part of a nearly 100 person joint-delegation from San Diego and Baja California, going to Mexico City this Sunday, to champion US-Mexico relations. "Closing the border is not an option. Neither a portion nor all of it," Avila said. San Ysidro Port of Entry is the busiest land border crossing in the Western Hemisphere. More than 70,000 vehicles and 25,000 pedestrians cross into the United States every day.President Trump recently tried to direct .5 Billion from the Pentagon to build his campaign promise wall. But that was blocked by Senate Democrats and 12 Republicans. Now Baja-Cali business leaders fear the President will force a port and border shutdown. "Closing the border will be a profit-making operation," the President said. Not so, said Jason Wells with the San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce. As the Executive Director, he advocates for 650 businesses that have a zipcode one and a half miles from the border. He will be joining Avila on Sunday, in the advocacy delegation. He knows first hand the severe consequences of a shutdown. "Our daily lives are affected by the border crossings and how long that takes. So we certainly wish that not to be something to be toyed with," Wells said. When migrants rushed the border last November, San Ysidro Port of Entry was shut down for just five hours. In that short time, the city lost .3 million in revenue. This does not include the economic impacts to neighboring Chula Vista, National City, or San Diego.ABC News consultant John Cohen, who held a senior role at Homeland Security, said the last time there was a border shutdown was during the Reagan administration. He said it caused severe economic harm to both countries. "History tells us when you shut down the southern border, it does little to stop to flow of illegal drugs into the US. It does little to stop illegal immigration. You do cause significant economic harm to the US," Cohen told ABC News.Especially in this global economy, Avila said, where pesos and dollars are swiftly exchanged, and where commerce and culture are deeply intertwined. "Our economies, communities, workforce, our businesses are so integrated. It's like dissecting a person. Dividing a person in half is not viable," Avila said. SAN ONOFRE (KGTV) -- Police chased a domestic violence suspect from Los Angeles County to San Diego County Thursday night. The driver, who has family in Tijuana, was believe to be heading to the border, according to our ABC affiliate in L.A.?At one point, the suspect may have ran over a spike strip, slowing him down. Once near the Camp Pendleton area police attempted two pit maneuvers. Shortly after the suspect drove off the freeway and into the brush, where he ultimately turned off the car and exited his vehicle. Police were able to take him into custody around 11:20 p.m. and began to search the vehicle. *This is a developing story. 10News will continue to update as more details unfold.  730

(KGTV) - The City of San Marcos is turning to crowdfunding to make up for budget shortfalls in their 4th of July plans.For the second straight year, the city set up a GoFundMe website to raise money for fireworks. This year's goal is ,500.City officials tell 10News the city already pitches in ,000 to pay for entertainment, security, permits and other costs associated with their annual Fireworks Extravaganza.They also say traditional donations have brought in about ,000 for fireworks. But the fireworks show costs K."I can tell you, it's the best show in North County," says San Marcos Recreations Programs Manager Andrea Gonzalez. "It's a real show-stopper."Last year's GoFundMe brought in more than ,000. Gonzalez says the city still solicits donations from past donors through the mail and phone calls, but those have been down over the last few years. They decided to get creative and make it easier for people to chip in."It's a lot easier to get on your Facebook page and contribute to a GoFundMe with one click than having to write a check," says Gonzalez.Other 4th of July celebrations have done the same thing. SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) — A man was killed after their pickup truck crashed into a brick wall early Wednesday morning.At about 2:56 a.m., a black Dodge Dakota pickup truck veered off of N. Las Posas Road, south of the intersection of Avenida Azul, crashed into a brick wall in the center median, the San Diego Sheriff's Department said.SDSO investigators say it's unclear why the vehicle left the roadway.The 68-year-old male driver, who was the only person in the truck, was pronounced deceased at the scene.It's unclear if alcohol or drugs were a factor. 566

SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man deputies say was under the influence was arrested Saturday evening after crashing into a patrol car and causing a second crash while fleeing law enforcement. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, deputies tried to make contact with an intoxicated man in the parking lot on the 400 block of Autumn Drive in San Marcos around 4:49 p.m.The driver, Cristian Reinoso, 24, failed to obey instructions, instead backing into an unoccupied patrol vehicle twice, deputies say. According to the department, Reinoso then drove away from the parking lot, striking a fence and a parked car before running a red light and crashing into another vehicle at the intersection of Los Vallecitos Boulevard and Knoll Road. The crash reportedly caused Reinoso’s vehicle to roll over, so deputies say he got out and ran away before being arrested at an apartment complex on the 200 block of Knoll Road. Both Reinoso and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to the hospital for minor injuries. The department says Reinoso will be charged with assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon and hit-and-run causing injuries. 1167
