COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Republicans in the Ohio House of Representatives began a lame-duck session Thursday by passing a bill that would ban most abortions after the first detection of a fetal heartbeat. That milestone can arrive as early as six weeks into a pregnancy.The Republican-controlled House voted 58-35 Thursday in favor of the legislation, which does not include exceptions for rape or incest.The bill provides “a more consistent and reliable marker for the courts to use” when considering abortion laws’ constitutionality, said Rep. Christina Hagan, a Stark County Republican and the bill’s co-sponsor.The American Civil Liberties Union called the measure “a total abortion ban” and promised to sue if it becomes law. DADE CITY, Fla. — Pasco County Fire Rescue is working to extinguish a large fire that destroyed three chicken coop barns early Thursday morning.Officials say an employee who lives on the Cal-Maine Foods property, located in Dade City, called in the first alarm around 1 a.m.When firefighters arrived on the scene, they immediately called for a second alarm after noting the size of the fire.The fire destroyed three barns that each contain up to 80,000 chickens each, and officials say at least 250,000 chickens total were killed.Crews were forced to battle the flames from an exterior position because the buildings were collapsing and propane tanks were going off.“We’re trying to keep everyone safe. We’re trying to fight the fire from outside the building," Chief Shawn Whited of Pasco County Fire Rescue said. "We haven’t been able to enter those buildings yet just because of the amount of fire and the number of hazards that are in there.”A front end loader also responded to assist in the firefighting efforts.This part of Pasco County is rural and there are no water hydrants nearby. Coca-Cola will soon be giving Japanese consumers a new kind of buzz.In a departure from its traditional soda business, Coke plans to launch an alcoholic drink in Japan this year. It's trying to get in on the growing market for "chu-hi" -- canned, flavored drinks typically made with sparkling water and shochu, a Japanese spirit distilled from grains.The new drink is a "highly Japan-specific approach given the complexity and richness" of Coke's range of products in the country, Coke spokesperson Yohko Okabe told CNN on Wednesday.The company declined to give further details on the plans, but in a recent blog post, the president of Coca-Cola Japan said the drink would be "unique" in Coke's history."We haven't experimented in the low alcohol category before," Jorge Gardu?o said in the post.The storied soft drinks company is set to enter a crowded market. CLEVELAND — An American Airlines flight headed to Cleveland Saturday afternoon had a scary setback after the windshield cracked mid-flight, according to American Airlines.The flight, which departed from O'Hare International Airport in Chicago around 1:30 p.m., was in the air for approximately 30 minutes before a mechanical issue with the windscreen occurred and forced the flight to return to the airport, American Airlines said.American Airlines said that the plane landed safely and taxied to the gate without incident, and after changing aircraft, re-departed for Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.No injuries to any customers or crew members were reported, American Airlines said.This story was originally published by Camryn Justice on WEWS in Cleveland. 775
