BALTIMORE, Maryland — A Morgan State University math professor believes he's the victim of a romance scam. Dr. Jonathan Farley met his wife through a Russian online dating site. He was after true love, but he believes his wife was after a Green Card and his money. He estimates he lost close to ,000.Farley, an accomplished mathematician, looked at finding love like a statistics problem."There are 10 million more women than men in Russia," said Farley.He liked his odds, so he traveled to Siberia where he met a woman in an unconventional way.“I met her in 2013. I used a mail order bride website called Elenasmodels.com. Even though they used the term ‘mail order,’ no one actually arrives in the mail,” Farley said.The website delivered a match. She was 20, he was 42. Despite the age difference, they thought they'd give it a shot.“We stayed in touch. I sent her about 250 questions about family life, how many kids you'd want to have, other aspects and she answered all of them,” Farley said. Farley later flew to Turkey to meet her parents and after a three-year courtship, they married at the Towson courthouse. Within two weeks of getting married, Farley said his wife's behavior completely changed."The arguments and insults," said Farley. "And the spending was incredible. We went to places like Walmart and she would spend 0. We went to Bed Bath & Beyond and she spent 0. I don't remember how much we spent at Ikea."He says the spending continued, as well as the insults, until he hit his breaking point three months into the marriage.His wife wanted a new coat. BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — A Florida mother is suing the company who makes Banana Boat sunscreen.Agi Kiraga says one of their sprays caused her son's skin to blister."It was Sunday afternoon. Me and my husband decided to take Jaden to the pool," the Boynton Beach, Florida, mother said.Having recently moved from Chicago, Kiraga made sure to put sunscreen on her then 2-year-old son. "I apply directly on the skin and then I spread on his body," says Kiraga.Kiraga says she used "Banana Boat kids, tear-free, sting-free broad spectrum continuous spray sunscreen" for the first time.She says it was about 4 p.m. when they went to the pool, and they only stayed outside for an hour and a half at most.Later that night, Kiraga says, "all of a sudden I saw some circle spot on his shoulder." She says it was in the spot where she had directly sprayed."Next day, the spot was more red," the mother says.A day after that, Kiraga says, "it was bad. First, you had those blisters, then it was blistered where it ruptured. And then skin peeling off."Kiraga says her dermatologist told her he'd seen it before with that sunscreen. Although he did not see Jaden himself, dermatologist Reid Green, with Water's Edge Dermatology in Florida, says he's seen similar negative reactions to sunscreen before."There are certain properties in the ingredients in some chemical sunscreens that are sort of activated by the sun," says Green. That causes irritation, an allergic reaction or other problems. California is fining the nation’s largest pharmacy health care provider a record .6 million for failing to redeem deposits on bottles and cans at some of its locations, regulators said Monday.The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery, better known as CalRecycle, said its investigation found that 81 of CVS Pharmacy’s 848 retail stores in California refused to redeem the recyclables or pay a required 0 daily fee as an alternative.CalRecycle filed the enforcement action last week, and CVS can seek a hearing if it wants to contest the fine. Department spokesman Lance Klug said it’s the largest enforcement action ever against a retailer for failing to redeem recyclables.The company “is committed to contributing to healthier, more sustainable communities and we are currently reviewing the state of California’s filing,” spokesman Mike DeAngelis said in an email.One of CalRecycle’s most vocal critics praised the department’s action as a good first step to helping prop up the recycling industry. The industry has faltered due to a drop in value for scrap metal and aluminum and as other countries, particularly China, have become more picky in the types of waste they will buy from the United States.The vast majority of nearly 4,000 beverage retailers have agreed to redeem bottles and cans if consumers can’t find another convenient recycler.
