Lindsey Graham said “good old days of segregation” in a question to nominee Amy Comey Barrett when discussing a landmark 1954 high court ruling.On Wednesday, Graham claimed the comment was made in sarcasm."If anybody was listening to who I am and what I said, you know that it was the deep sarcasm that I suggested that some legislative body would want to yearn for the good old days of segregation,” Graham said on Wednesday. “The point that I'm trying to make is there is nobody in America in the legislative arena, wanting to take us back to that dark period in American history.”During Tuesday’s questioning, Graham asked, "And one of the reasons you can say with confidence that you think Brown versus Board of Education is super precedent is that you’re not aware of any effort to go back to the good old days of segregation by a legislative body, is that correct?"Graham is an unexpectedly tight race against Democrat Jamie Harrison for his seat in South Carolina. Harrison fired back at the senator.“Lindsay Graham just called segregation ‘the good old days,’” Harrison tweeted. “The good old days for who, Senator? It’s 2020, not 1920. Act like it.”Graham responded directly to Harrison’s quip.“And for my opponent to suggest that says far more about him than me,” Graham said. “I've been a United States Senator for three terms. The U.S. Mint has slowed production to keep employees safe from the coronavirus. With stay-at-home orders and business shut-downs, fewer people are spending coins at stores, laundromats, vending machines and other places. Walmart and CVS locations have also made changes to encourage customers to use exact change or plastic to pay for their items when possible. Due to the ongoing pandemic, a record number of people have cast their ballots early for the general election, but many will still head to the polls on Tuesday.If you plan on voting in person on Election Day, there are steps you can take to protect yourself and those around you from COVID-19.As cases spike around the country, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released a list of tips for voters to reduce the spread of the coronavirus at the polls.The CDC says the more prepared you are, the more you reduce your risk of getting and spreading the virus.Bring your own suppliesThe CDC recommends bringing the following with you when you head to your polling place: Necessary documentation such as your ID, a mask and back-up mask, tissues, hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol, water, black ink pen, and any prepared items like registration forms or sample ballots.Wear a maskThe CDC says you should wear a mask consistently and correctly in public or if you’re around people who you don’t live with. If you must take your mask off, use hand sanitizer before and after. Having an extra mask is helpful if yours gets wet or dirty.Note: A few people might not be able to wear a mask, because of a disability or condition.Keep your distance from othersThe CDC suggests staying at least 6 feet from other people as much as you can. That’s about two arms’ lengths. You should stay that far apart even if you’re wearing masks.Clean your hands oftenThe CDC says to wash your hands or use a hand sanitizer before entering and after leaving your election site. Officials also suggest using a sanitizer after touching items that many others may have touched, such as door handles.The CDC says not to wipe down voting equipment yourself unless you are told to do so. It could damage the equipment. Officials also say to make sure your hands are completely dry from sanitizer before touching the equipment.Protect yourself when using transportWhen using any kind of public transport, the CDC suggests wearing a mask, avoid touching things if you can and using sanitizer if you do, staying 6 feet apart from others, and open windows when possible.Avoid crowdsTo help avoid crowds, the CDC says you should try voting at non-peak times, such as mid-morning. If driving to the polls and your schedule allows, you can monitor the voter line from your vehicle and join when it’s shorter. 2405

Eight people were injured during a shooting at the Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Friday afternoon, chief of police Barry Weber told reporters. Weber confirmed that seven of the injured were adults, while one teen was among the victims. Weber did not know the extent of their injuries. Weber said when police arrived at the mall Friday afternoon, the shooter was no longer at the scene. As of early Friday evening, a suspect has not been found. A person said she heard gunshots near the food court in the mall. Mall security then ordered all customers to leave immediately, according to her.The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner tweeted that they are not responding to the incident, indicating no one has died at the scene.Members of the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Wauwatosa Police, Wisconsin National Guard and other departments have been seen responding to the mall.Wauwatosa is located 10 miles west of downtown Milwaukee. 985
