ROSEMEAD (CNS) - Residents across Southern California were checking their homes and apartments this morning for any damage caused by a magnitude 4.5 earthquake that struck two miles south of Rosemead and was felt across a large portion of the region, including Orange County.The quake struck at 11:38 p.m. Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It was in almost the same location as the magnitude 5.9Whittier Narrows earthquake in 1987, famed seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones said. ``Just like in '87, the earthquake is quite deep ... it's possibly on the same fault,'' Jones told NBC4 early Saturday morning.She later tweeted this quake ``is not considered an aftershock (to the Whittier Narrows quake) because the aftershocks died off completely in less than two years.''A pair of aftershocks, magnitudes 2.1 and 1.6, struck within 10 minutes of Friday's quake, Jones said.She said there is about a 5% chance this was a foreshock to a bigger earthquake.The Los Angeles Fire Department went into ``Earthquake Mode, with all 106 Neighborhood Fire Stations checking their areas for damage.''About 12:45 a.m., the department said it had completed its assessments. (KGTV) — A 4.7-magnitude earthquake hit just outside the town Southern California town of Ridgecrest late Thursday.The quake struck near area of Little Lake, Calif., about 20 miles away from Ridgecrest just after 5:40 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. USGS estimated the earthquake's depth at about 1.2 miles.The earthquake could be felt from as far away as Spring Valley, according to the USGS' "Did You Feel It?" map.Several aftershocks were recorded around the area following the 4.7 shake up. No injuries were immediately reported. On July 5, magnitude 5.4 and 7.1 quakes hit the Ridgecrest area, causing millions in damage locally. Those quakes could be felt as far away as Las Vegas. 729

RICHMOND, Ind. — Shots were fired at a Richmond middle school Thursday morning.The incident happened at Dennis Middle School, at about 8 a.m. local time. Police say a teenaged suspect is dead after taking his own life.The school district confirmed on Twitter there was an active shooter. The school is secure.The suspect is contained, WRTV in Indianapolis reports.All Richmond Community Schools are on lockdown, the district posted on Facebook. Gavin Newsom says rules are not yet ready for businesses in those areas to reopen.
