One day after 17 lives were taken during a school shooting in Florida, a grandmother in Everett, Washington was given credit on Thursday for foiling a planned school shooting, according to a police press release. According to the press release released on Thursday, the grandmother of 18-year-old high school student Joshua Alexander O'Connor called 911 after finding O'Connor's journal that allegedly detailed plans to kill classmates. After the grandmother showed law enforcement the journal, O'Connor was arrested on Tuesday for attempted murder. Police said detectives seized O’Connor’s journal, inert grenades, a cellular phone and a High Point 9 mm carbine rifle following a search warrant. “This is a case where the adage ‘see something, say something’ potentially saved many lives,” said Everett Police Chief Dan Templeman. “It is critically important for community members, to include students and parents, to remain observant and immediately report odd or suspicious behaviors with our children or with fellow students. We were fortunate that a family member believed there were credible threats and contacted law enforcement for further investigation. I’m sure the decision was difficult to make, but fortunately, it was the correct one.”O'Connor's bail has been set at million. O'Connor is a student at ACES High School in Everett. Appropriately named Cafe 101, when you step inside, you take a step back in time inside a 50s-style diner filled with memories and history. Café 101 has been an Oceanside fixture since 1928 for one reason. "Location, location, location," says John Daley sitting at the counter. Daley should know for several reasons. He's a developer, a third-generation Oceanside native, and former owner of Cafe 101 and much of its rich history."At one time, this was even our local bus stop for Greyhound out in front of us," adds Daley. When Camp Pendleton opened during World War II, Oceanside exploded from 5,000 people to more than 12,000. Cafe 101 was not only a drive-in diner, but it also served as a trailer park. "So those people had to have some place to live, they have to have some place to eat, and some place to recreate,” explains Daley. “So, it was just a crazy time in Oceanside history."For those Marines, Cafe 101 was like a second home and the employees who worked there were like family. Years later, when Daley and his partners bought the restaurant in the mid-80s he would see those Marines, much older now with children and grandchildren, return to the cafe to relive memories."Me being a big talker, I love to go out and say high to as many as I could recognize, and thank them for their service, and tell their kids what a great job they did to make our country free," says Daley with a smile. OTAY MESA, Calif (KGTV) - A peace gathering was held Saturday night for the family of Maribel Ibanez, the woman shot and killed at an Otay Mesa Church's Chicken.About 100 people lent support at the gathering, telling Maribel's mother, Emma Carla Merino, she wasn't alone.Maribel Ibanez and two male employees were shot Nov. 6 by a man who has yet to be found. The two male victims survived.At Saturday's gathering, a mural was painted of a flying candle with the name Maribel in script underneath. People spoke of love conquering violence. Musicians played, flowers and candles were passed out, and there were prayers."I feel hurt but I feel peace because she is already resting," Merino said. One inmate was shot and at least five others were injured during a riot at Tehachapi Prison on Sunday, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirmed.According to CDCR, six inmates were hurt during a riot that broke out at the facility Sunday afternoon at about 1:33 p.m. Five were injured during the riot itself and another was shot by an officer "in the buttocks area," CDCR said.The inmate who was shot was transported with non-life threatening injuries. The condition of the other five injured inmates is unclear at this time. No guards or staff were hurt.CDCR says three shots were fired during the incident.
