A Valley girl is frustrated after trying to ride her horse through the drive-thru when the barista said nay. Aspen Cline had seen internet videos of others riding their horses through the Starbucks drive-thru and decided that's what she wanted to do for her birthday. Instead, she and her horse, Scout, were shut down by the barista who apparently wasn't into horsing around. "We weren't given a reason, just, "we can't take your order," said Aspen. "My friend and I were going to get frappuccinos for us and a cup of whipped cream for the horses." A Starbucks spokesperson told us, officially, their drive-through is for cars only. He said that policy is for animal, rider and employee safety. But, he also added that the horses caught the barista off guard and with a little-advanced notice next time they'll find a way to serve all creatures."We support Starbucks because they're very accepting," said Tandy Cline, Aspen's mom. "So we were kind of disappointed we got thrown to the side from such a great company." Fourth of July celebrations may look a little different this year, but the U.S. Department of Agriculture says you should still be able to enjoy your favorite patriotic foods in a safe way.No matter how you’re celebrating, the USDA is encouraging Americans to make food safety and other public health recommendations a part of their festivities.USDA officials offered these tips to ensure a food safe Fourth of July:Don’t cross-contaminateAlways keep raw meat and their juices from touching other foods.While grilling, avoid using the same utensils for cooked and ready-to-eat foods that were previously used with raw meat or poultry products. Wash and sanitize all surfaces and utensils after they touch raw items. (A recent USDA survey showed that 34% of respondents do not follow an important step to use a different utensil to take food off the grill.)Bring enough tools to keep your raw meat and poultry away from any cooked or ready-to-eat foods and have extra cleaning and sanitizing supplies ready for your surfaces, plates and utensils.Use a food thermometerSome grill masters may say they know their food is done just by looking at its color when it comes off the grill, but the USDA says that’s not possible and shouldn’t be relied upon. That’s where a food thermometer comes in.“More than 25% of burgers can turn brown inside before they are fully cooked,” said FSIS Administrator Paul Kiecker. “Although your grilled foods may look done, foodborne illness causing germs are not killed until the safe internal temperature has been reached. Using a food thermometer is the only way to know your food is done and safe to eat.”The USDA recommended safe minimum internal temperatures are:· Beef, pork, lamb and veal (steaks, roasts and chops): 145°F then rest for three-minutes· Fish: 145°F· Ground meats (beef, pork, lamb and veal): 160°F· Whole poultry, poultry breasts and ground poultry: 165°FKeep foods at safe temperaturesPerishable food items should not be left outside for more than two hours, and only one hour if the temperature is at or above 90°F.Keep your food at or below 40°F, in coolers or containers with a cold source, such as ice or frozen gel packs. (AP) -- Police in Flagstaff say a group of teens killed a 23-year-old man after he allegedly inappropriately touched one of the girls involved in the killing.Flagstaff police said on Friday that Jaron James was found dead on Sept. 7 and that four teens, including two who are underage, have been arrested.Police say James was killed at a motel and that the suspects knew him. They say the group attacked James after he touched one of the suspects, a 16-year-old girl from Flagstaff.Eighteen-year-old Lawrence Sampson-Kahn and 19-year-old Kayson Russell are among the four arrested. FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Richard DeLisi is a free man after serving 31 years of a 90-year sentence for selling marijuana. The 71-year-old walked out of a Florida prison Tuesday saying he's not bitter about the lost years and prefers to focus on creating memories with his family. According to The Last Prisoner Project, DeLisi was believed to have been the longest-serving nonviolent cannabis prisoner.He was sentenced to 90 years in 1989 at the age of 40. DeLisi's older brother, Ted, was also convicted, USA Today reported.According to the Associated Press, the typical sentence was only 12 to 17 years.DeLisi told the AP that he believes he was targeted because the judge mistakenly thought he was part of organized crime because he was Italian. According to USA Today, Ted was released from prison in 2013 after successfully appealing his conspiracy conviction.While he was in prison, Richard's wife, parents, and 23-year-old son all died.
