(KGTV) - A new music school is open in the South Bay, teaching kids to play instruments with a less-classical approach."We're not the little old lady down the street with a metronome," says owner Mark Sheffield.He opened the School of Rock at Otay Ranch Town Center after his wife had to drive through traffic to take their son to classes in Liberty Station."Later on that evening, I asked how did it go, did you have fun? Yes, it was a blast. He loved it. We want to do that again. But we're not. But we're not ever doing that again. It was a 45-minute drive there and an hour and a half drive back," Sheffield explains.He says opening a South Bay location gives kids in that part of the county an option to learn music in a fun, modern way."The students learn music by playing it in an environment that fosters a true enjoyment for what they're doing," he says. "They're going to want to come anyway, and hang out with friends, and they're going to end up learning."School of Rock offers lessons for kids starting at age 3, no matter the skill level. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A family in Chula Vista is beefing up security and warning their neighbors after surveillance cameras caught someone breaking in. Video shows a burglar smashing through a door in the house and ransacking the place before the family returned home with their young son with special needs. “It’s almost like TSA after 911. You just gotta not stop living your life; you got to fortify yourself and live your life a little differently right now,” said Dean Riggott.It’s the life Riggott, his wife, and their 9-year-old son say they’re living after surveillance footage from their kitchen captured the incident. “It’s a complete violation, like, right now I’m sleeping downstairs to be the first line of defense.”Riggott is defending his family against a burglar who smashed through a glass door and made his way inside. The family wasn’t home at the time. Their son was the first to notice the home had been burglarized.“He said, 'Dad, there is something wrong with the door, and there’s stuff all over the ground',” said Riggott.The 9-year-old couldn’t see what was wrong with the door because he is mostly blind. He also has autism. “Told my son immediately to get out, grabbed a knife and my club.”Police came minutes after being called but the burglar was long gone. The family was uneasy after seeing iPads, video game systems, and other expensive items untouched. “He’s talking to somebody the whole time on a Bluetooth, and I think that’s a key point.”Other than destroying things, the thief seemed to only target vintage, high-end purses, taking about ,000 worth. “He came in with socks on, he’s in the system; he must be in the system if he’s worried about his fingerprints.”Riggott says he hopes someone will recognize the man's face. (KGTV) -- The Chula Vista Police Department received a nearly 0,000 grant to help fight human trafficking, the Department of Justice announced Tuesday.According to the department, Chula Vista Police is the only local law enforcement department in California to receive the grant.The money was granted to the department through the Department’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) Community Policing Development (CPD) Microgrants Program.“Additional funds to respond to the threat of human trafficking are particularly important now,” said U.S. Attorney Robert Brewer. “The coronavirus pandemic has young people spending countless hours on their phones, and unfortunately this renders them prey for human traffickers who exploit social media.” “The CPD Microgrants Program is a critical resource to advance innovative community policing projects across the country,” said COPS Office Director Phil Keith. “These strategic investments from the COPS Office pay huge dividends to state and local law enforcement agencies and the communities that they serve.”A total of 29 law enforcement agencies throughout the country were awarded similar grants.According to the DOJ, the money is granted to departments to improve enforcement in the following areas:? CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A man was arrested today on suspicion of trying to open a bank vault where some employees had locked themselves in to hide from the suspect, police said.Police received two calls from an employee of Wells Fargo Bank in the 1200 block of Broadway at 9:36 a.m. Saturday, according to Lt. Scott Adkins of the Chula Vista Police Department. The first call was about a man causing a disturbance outside the bank, and the second call was to report an attempted robbery by the same man inside the bank.Police arrived at the bank and arrested Elieser Hurta, 27, who was trying to open the bank's vault with a set of keys stolen from an employee, Adkins said.Hurta was unarmed and no employees were injured in the attempted robbery, the lieutenant said. One bank employee fainted during the incident, and some employees were found hiding inside the vault, he said.Hurta was arrested on suspicion of two counts of robbery in the theft of personal items from two bank employees, and one count of attempted robbery for trying to open the bank's vault, Adkins said. 1080
