UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- China on Friday voiced its hope that the upcoming summit of the Group of 20 largest economies (G20) will help achieve positive efforts that include the efforts to strengthen the institution building, enhance market confidence around the world and accelerate the recovery of the world economy. The statement came as Li Baodong, the Chinese permanent representative to the United Nations, was speaking at the informal meeting of the UN General Assembly on the upcoming G20 summit in Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea (ROK)."China hopes that the Seoul summit will, in the spirit of mutual benefit and win-win outcome on the basis of implementation of the outcomes of previous G20 summit, achieve the following positive results: First, strengthen the institution building of the G20, enhance market confidence around the world, and accelerate the recovery of the world economy," Li said."Second, complete the IMF's share reform before the summit and fulfill the commitments made by the G20 leaders," he said. "Third, address the imbalance in development issues, so as to provide political support to the early realization of the MDGs," the eight anti-poverty targets to be reached by 2015. IMF stands for the International Monetary Fund, a Bretton Woods institute.A one more positive results that China hopes to see at the end of the coming G20 summit is to "facilitate the achievement of a comprehensive and balanced outcome at the Doha Round and the fulfillment of the Development Round objectives," he said."China stands ready to work with all parties concerned to ensure that the G20 summit continue to develop in line with the common interests of the international community," he said.Meanwhile, the senior Chinese diplomat also voiced his support to the UN involvement in the G20 summit."China supports the initiative of the G20 to invite, as it did in the past, representatives of the United Nations to participate in the summit and its preparations," he said."China welcomes the effort of the (UN) secretary-general to gather the views and proposals of the member states and bring these inputs to the summit in Seoul," Li said."The G20 summit has played a significant and positive role in coordinating global response to the international financial crisis and in promoting the recovery of the world economy. The United Nations is the most authoritative and representative multilateral organization," he said. "Enhancing coordination and cooperation between the G20 and the United Nations will help strengthen global economic governance, promote the sustainable and balanced recovery of the world economy, and address the legitimate concerns of small and medium-sized countries."The G20 members account for 90 percent of global output, 80 percent of global trade, and two-thirds of the world's population. They include: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Britain, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the ROK, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United States and the European Union.

HEFEI, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- China's top 500 enterprises reported smaller revenue gaps with their U.S. counterparts, while outperforming their worldwide competitors in profitability amid the nation's rapid economic recovery, an industrial ranking report showed Saturday.China's top 500 enterprises chalked up 4.05 trillion U.S. dollars in operating revenues last year, equivalent to about 18 percent of the operating revenue total created by the world's top 500 companies in the same year, and the ratio was 2.62 percentage points lower than the figure recorded for the year earlier, according to a report released Saturday in Hefei, capital of east China's Anhui Province, by the China Enterprise Confederation (CEC) and China Enterprise Directors Association. The average profit margin of China's top 500 enterprises was 5.44 percent in 2009, compared with 4.16 percent for the world's top 500 companies.Further, the net profits of the Chinese heavyweights grew by more than 20 percent last year, faster than the 17 percent for the world's top 500. It was the second consecutive year that Chinese enterprises outshone theirforeign counterparts in annual profits.Miao Rong, researcher with CEC, said despite the progress, China's top 500 enterprises obviously suffered from the impact of the global financial crisis as they reported slower growth in new employment and business revenues. However, unlike the world's top 500 companies, most of which are service and high tech giants, a lion's share of China's top 500 businesses are traditional industrial enterprises in the fields of energy development, telecommunications and power generation, Miao noted."It is a tough job, in the short-term, to make Chinese corporations catch up with their foreign counterparts in terms of 'soft power' , such as the capability of resource integration, management expertise, brand building and intellectual property protection," he added.Sinopec, Asia's leading refinery, topped the top 500 revenue list for the fifth consecutive year with 1.39 trillion yuan (about 204.41 billion U.S. dollars) in 2009. It was followed by the State Grid and PetroChina. Also, private businesses were growing rapidly as five companies reported operating revenues exceeding 100 billion yuan. Huawei Technology Co Ltd, a telecommunication equipment producer, recently leaped into the world's top 500 enterprises club.

TEHRAN, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China ( CPC) official Li Changchun visited Iran from Tuesday to Wednesday, met with Iranian leaders and stressed bilateral cooperation.Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, conveyed sincere greetings and best wishes to Iranian people in a written speech issued upon his arrival at the airport early Tuesday morning.Iran is an ancient civilized country with a long history which has created the splendid Persian civilization and made important contribution to the development and progress of human civilization, he said.Exchanges between China and Iran began more than 2,000 years ago, and the ancient Silk Road witnessed the continuation and development of the friendship between the two countries, Li added."China values the traditional friendship between the two sides, and during my stay here I will meet and hold talks with Iranian leaders, exchange our ideas on boosting the bilateral relations, discuss new ways to promote political mutual trust and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and promote bilateral exchanges and cooperation in political, economic and cultural aspects to gain new achievements," he said at the airport.Li met here Tuesday morning with the Iranian president and vice president to discuss bilateral relations. When meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, he thanked the Iranian leader for offering condolences to China when the country was hit by severe natural disasters, including the earthquake in Yushu, Qinghai province, and the mudslides in Zhouqu, Gansu province, and his attendance at the Shanghai Expo to celebrate Iran's National Pavilion Day.With joint efforts by the two countries in recent years, bilateral relations have maintained a good momentum, political mutual trust has been enhanced and bilateral trade cooperation has been widened, exchanges in culture, education and tourism have been expanded, and traditional friendship between the two peoples has been deepened. The two countries are faced with challenges as well as development opportunities regarding regional and world stability, tackling the impacts of the international financial crisis and boosting economic development, he noted. The CPC official said China is willing to cooperate with Iran to seize the opportunities to consolidate and develop bilateral relations in various areas.Li put forward a four-point proposal to develop bilateral relations, including maintaining high-level contacts and deepening political mutual trust, boosting pragmatic cooperation, strengthening cultural exchanges, and maintaining coordination in international affairs.Li and Ahmadinejad exchanged their views on international and regional issues of common concern.Li reiterated China's stance to solve the Iranian nuclear issue through negotiations. "China is willing to continue playing a constructive role in this regard," he said.Ahmadinejad asked Li to convey his greetings to Chinese President Hu Jintao and said he agreed with Li's proposal on further boosting bilateral relations. The Iranian president pointed out that Iran and China share similar views on the current world situation and global issues, and they face similar challenges and opportunities."Development of friendly relations between the two countries is in the interest of the two peoples and regional peace," he said. "Iran will continue implementing friendly policies toward China, boost pragmatic cooperation in different fields and realize the common development of the two sides."While expressing appreciation for China's long-standing efforts to help solve the Iranian nuclear issue, he said Iran is committed to solving the issue through negotiations.

BEIJING, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang Wednesday called for accelerated public hospital reforms and the establishment of an essential medicine system to provide better health care.Li, who heads the State Council's leading group on health care reforms, made the remarks at a meeting in Beijing. The essential medicine system planned by the reforms will allow citizens to buy affordable, effective and safe medicines, Li said. Grassroots medical institutions should also become a citizen's first choice for visiting a doctor, he added.Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang presides over a meeting of the State Council's leading group on health care reforms in Beijing, capital of China, Oct. 27, 2010.Further, the reforms should provide for a rational division of responsibilities among major public hospitals and grassroots clinics, Li said, adding that large hospitals should establish a patient-oriented diagnosis and treatment procedure and provide a better environment.Private capital should also be welcomed to invest and build medical institutions to create a competitive market mechanism, Li said.

BEIJING, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- China's primary energy consumption will be kept to between 4 to 4.2 billion tonnes of standard coal by 2015, Jiang Bing, director of the development and planning department of the National Energy Administration (NEA), said on Saturday.Jiang made the remarks at a forum held by the energy research institute of the State Grid Corporation of China.Primary energy refers to existing natural energy which does not need processing, such as fossil fuels, nuclear fuels, biomass energy, hydropower, wind power, solar power and others. As China has adopted a low-carbon development strategy, the country plans to raise the non-fossil energies ratio in its total primary energy consumption to 15 percent by 2020, and carbon dioxide emissions per GDP would be reduced by 40 to 45 percent by 2020 from 2005 levels, Jiang said. Thus, primary energy consumption must be kept to below 4.2 billion tonnes in the next five-year plan (2011-2015) to achieve the two targets, Jiang said.China's per capita energy consumption now stands at 2.5 tonnes standard coal per capita and, if left uncontrolled, China might see its energy consumption top 7 billion tonnes of standard coal in 2030, Jiang said. However, he explained that despite the huge total amounts, the per capita energy consumption would only be equivalent to current levels in Japan. Thus, the nation's economic growth mode transformation is quite necessary and it would be a strategic choice for China to control its total energy consumption in the 15 years, Jiang said.China's primary energy consumption topped 3.07 billion tonnes of standard coal in 2009, up 30 percent from 2005, according to the NEA.
